"-may I use your knife? I used mine to cut up my chicken earlier." I interrupted Remus to ask James.

"Yeah, I wasn't going to use it anyways," James handed me the knife right away.

"Thank you." I smiled at him.

"It was no problem." James grinned back. "I'm known for helping damsels in distress quite often." James smirked jokingly.

I laughed with James before he turned back to Sirius. "I'm sorry, what were you saying Remus?" I turned back to Remus, giving him my full attention.

"As I was saying, why is not reading your answer to not finding another book you like? Shouldn't you work harder to find a book you'll enjoy." Remus graciously started the conversation back up.

"Well if I was a nerd like you, or a Ravenclaw. Then yes, that would be my plan of action. But seeing as I'm a Gryffindor and not one who needs books in my life, I have decided that the search was not worthy of my time." I shrugged and Remus chuckled at my small speech. "But," I continued, "I do have one book that I would love to have in my life, one that is brilliant beyond words and I cannot bear to live without."

"And that is?" Remus asked.

I grinned, "it's a muggle book I came across years ago, I was actually wandering through a muggle bookstore, I was trying to find Lily, and it was sitting all alone on the very bottom shelf in the back corner of the store, forgotten. It caught my attention because of the fascinating artwork on the front cover. It was a boy surrounded by friends and family. Nothing special, but enough to catch the eye." I noticed that Remus was watching with hungry eyes, he was dying to know what book I had fallen in love with, he wanted to know just what book could get me to read through the entire thing. "The book was amazing, it was about a boy, his parents had died and he was put in the custody of his older brother, who was of age, along with his middle brother. They lived in a neighborhood many people wouldn't feel safe in, one that had trouble, but was close, they were a family. The oldest brother was always working, he was trying to keep his family together, he had dropped out of college just to take care of his little brothers. The middle brother had dropped out of high school to also get a job, he wanted to help with the responsibilities. The youngest of the brothers also wanted to quit school, but they wouldn't let him, they wanted him to get a future, to become successful. The family of boys had close friends: a wisecracker who was too old to still be in school, but continued going just for kicks; a temperamental teen who couldn't stay out of a fight, or jail for that matter; the middle sons childhood friend, who worked at the same car shop as him; and a broken boy who was beat by his parents. They stuck together, they became a family."

"What was it called?" Remus asked excitedly.

"It's called The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton." I smiled fondly as the name slipped from my lips.

"Would you mind letting me borrow it sometime?" He asked curiously.

"I'd be happy to." I smiled. "I actually have it up in my bag, if you would like it soon?"

"That would be wonderful."

"Hello," Lily spoke from behind me. I turned to face her along with James.

"Lily-flower!" James grinned. "I knew you couldn't resist me!"

"I wasn't coming over here for you Potter, leave me alone." Lily glared at James.

"Awe, Evans, that hurts, that hurts me right here." He said and placed a hand over his chest.

I started to giggle, "James, your heart is on the other side."

He looked down at his hand in confusion and quickly moved his hand to the left side of his chest, correctly gesturing to his heart. "Right here, Evans, you hurt me here."

Lily scoffed, "how can you be hurt if you don't even know where." Lily turned back to me, "I was just wondering if you're okay, you know, from earlier."

"Yes, Lily," I gave a sigh. "I'm fine. I wasn't hurt at all. I was only going for a run in the forest. Nothing happened. It's like you don't trust me to protect myself." I rolled my eyes.

"I know you can, I just worry sometimes." Lily smiled softly.

"I know you do, but you need to know that I am more than capable of taking care of myself. I don't need to be watched, I'm not five."

"Fine, just don't get hurt." Lily sighed, giving in.

"Eh," I shrugged. "I can't really control that. Trouble tends to find me, and leave me with injuries."

"Just promise me you'll try." Lily gave another exasperated sigh.

"I don't make promises that could be broken." I said with a smirk. "My word means everything to me."

"I know, that's why I want you to promise me." Lily said giving me a pointed look.

"Yeah, sorry, but no can do." I looked at my empty wrist. "I must go, I have plans."

"But you aren't even wearing a watch!" Lily exclaimed. "How do you know what time it is?"

"Don't need to know the time. I just know that I can't have you tricking me into promising you something," I shrugged and stood.

"Well at least tell me where you're going." Lily demanded.

"The forest." I smirked and started walking away.

"No you can't do that!" Lily hurried after me. "It's against the rules!"

"And when have I ever cared about the rules?" I scoffed. I glanced back over my shoulder just in time to see her roll her eyes. Right behind her was James, standing really close to Lily, Remus right on his feet and Sirius close behind, Peter was trying to pile his hands high with food before following after.

"But it's dangerous!" Sirius called out.

"It's not that bad," I rolled my eyes at him and continued. I exited the courtyard and started towards the forest.

"How long will you be in there?" James asked urgently.

"Uh maybe an hour or two." I shrugged. "Don't wait up, I shouldn't be longer than that."

"But what if something happens?" Remus asked worriedly.

"It won't." I answered shortly.

"What if it does though?" Remus pushed the subject.

"Then I get out with an injury, so what? Poppy will fix me up in seconds."

"What if you get hurt bad enough to not be able to get out? Or what if you die? Something could eat you alive! Werewolves run around in that forest!" Sirius exclaimed, he stood at my side and grabbed my hand. His large hand enveloped my small one. His fingertips were rough from hard work and his palms were soft.

"Sirius, it's not even a full moon." I giggled.

"Still! It could happen!" James exclaimed and the boys all shared a look. Remus paled and nodded along frantically.

"Then I die. Everything happens for a reason. Besides, to die would be life's next great adventure." I shrugged my hand out of his and continued towards the wooded area.

"Please don-" Lily started.

"-Guys!" Sirius spoke gaining everyone's attention. "If we can't stop her then we have to let her go." He looked me in the eyes, "she's just going to go anyways. Please be safe."

"Aren't I always?" I grinned and entered the forest.
