/ SCARLETT /

lyric-

they were fighting it out

she would hope,

she would pray

she was waiting it out

"Scarlett, come on in," called Dr. Moore.

With a sigh, I stood from the plastic chair and headed into the small office.

"Good morning, Scarlett," he said. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm all right," I replied. "Really sleepy. As usual."

"Are you ready to go home?"

My jaw dropped. ...home? I hadn't... I hadn't even been thinking about going home. I was concentrated on surviving the boring school hours we had to suffer through. Yeah, we had to do school if we were hospitalised during school.

But...home. I can go home.

"Scarlett?"

I shook my head, jumping to attention. "Oh- uh- yeah. Sorry. I just... I get to go home?" I paused. "What about Vic?"

"I thought you'd ask that," Dr. Moore said. He smiled. "Vic lives with his older brother, Mike, and after learning about all that's going on, Mike has decided to move to Pine Bluff. Vic is going to spend his senior year at your school."

I....

Oh, my gosh.

The happiness...the ecstasy...the unbelievable joy I felt... I could hardly breathe.

I could be with Vic. Actually be with him. Every day. We could hang out as much as we wanted.

I didn't realise that I was crying until a tear hit my collar bone.

"I'm glad to see how happy this makes you," the doctor said.

I wiped my cheek. "I... Thank you so much, doctor. I just... Wow. Thank you. Thank you!"

I get to be with him.
