"Jacob can you take bloods for the patient in cubicle 2 please and Robyn can you assist Zoe in resus please?" They both smiled before walking away from Rita as she sat down behind the nurses' station.

She sighed before opening the patient folder in front of her and beginning to sign various pieces of paper. Just when she thought the day couldn't get any worse, the infamous and dreaded sound echoed through the hall.

Connie walked into the ED looking around at the chaos that was already happening. It wasn't even 9 o'clock as she glanced down at her watch. With a raise of her eyebrows and a roll of her eyes, she strolled up to the desk to be greeted by Noel.

"Morning Mrs Beauchamp, here's your post... Oh and a Mr Strachan has been trying to get hold of you, said it was important?" Connie rolled her eyes before walking away from Noel. "No problem." He dropped his hands turning back to the queue of patient's before him.

Connie unlocked her office door and pushed it open as someone stopped beside her. "Can I help?" Charlie looked at her as she turned away and went into her office. Ignoring him completely, she removed her jacket and sat down in her chair.

She rose her eyes to where Charlie was standing. "Well? Have you got something to say or do you just plan on standing there doing nothing else all day like everyone else in this department-" "Connie-" "No, we're not doing this. I'm here to run a department not have a social life."

She looked back to her paperwork as Charlie moved closer to her desk. "What are you doing in Connie, everyone would understand if you had some time out-" "Nurse Fairhead I would appreciate it if you keep yourself out of my personal life, it has nothing to do with you! Either get out there and do some work or get out of my department!"

Everyone could hear the argument, well one-sided screaming, from the office. They paused to watch on wondering what Charlie had done so wrong to wind her up like that but before anyone else could say anything Charlie left the office with the door slamming behind him.

Hours passed and soon enough people were beginning to leave the ED. Nobody had seen Connie all day as she'd been in the office doing paperwork. She was half way through it all when someone knocked at the door before pushing it open and walking in.

"Did I say you could come in-" "You have a problem with my nursing team then come to me, don't shout at them so that everyone can hear you all around the department." Connie glared across at the blonde as she rose from her desk, resting her hands on it so she leant forward.

"Who do you think you are-" "I could ask you the same thing?" A small smile passed Connie's face, making the glare she gave even more sinister. "I think you should leave Nurse Freeman before I demand your ever waiting resignation on my desk-" "Is that a threat? I could go to the board about how you treat your staff..."

Connie laughed as she stood up and folded her arms against her chest while walking around the desk to face Rita. "And who do you think they'll believe, huh? Some jumped up little nurse who thinks she can say what she wants around the department or the clinical lead who they chose to be in this position? Hmm... I think we both know how far that'd get you."

Connie turned away from Rita and sat down again. "But by all means go to the board, make it easier for me to get your resignation because you have my word. In less than two weeks, you'll be gone. Now if you don't mind Nurse Freeman I have work to be doing so close the door on your way out."

There were tears building in Rita's eyes as the anger seeped through her. How dare she threaten her, there is no way she'd get away with this. Rita walked out pulling the door closed as hard as she could causing Connie to look up and forget what she was doing before. This is not what I need right now...

"Hey, careful Darcy Bussel you nearly had us both off our feet." Iain caught hold of Rita before looking down and noticing the look on her face. "Is everything alright?" Rita shrugged him off and walked into her office, slamming it closed behind her.

After hearing several doors slam Jacob walked out of the staffroom and towards Rita's office. He knocked but got no answer so pushed the door open. "What do you want Jacob, I'm busy?" He took one look at her before leaning against the door. "Let me guess, the boss got you all het up..."

Rita ignored him as he stepped forward and lent against her desk. "Jacob if you have nothing better to do-" "I was just going to say that we're all behind you, no matter what nurses stick together... Right?" Rita looked up to him and smiled slightly before he pushed off the desk and wandered out closing the door.

He made to walk out of the department before noticing Connie in her office through the blinds. There was no denying she was an incredible doctor, and definitely looked good but she wasn't exactly a people person yet he found himself drawn to her.

"What do you want?" Jacob pushed the door open with a grin on his face. "So then sweet cheeks-" "Mrs Beauchamp and I am not in the mood to deal with your stupid immature games right now Staff Nurse Masters." Jacob watched as she finally lifted her eyes to look at him. "What?"

He shrugged before sitting down in the chair opposite her. "Did I say you could sit down and waste my time, no good then get out." Jacob smiled before leaning forward catching her attention. "You know boss, not everyone here is out to get you... Some of us might even want to help." He got up and walked for the door leaving her looking after him. Without another word he closed the door leaving Connie alone and thinking.
