Chapter 11

Cleo POV

The grey stone building of the library towered up before us, I stared at the dull architecture while Alec chained his bike to a lamppost.

"So, are you loving the bike now?" he had a teasing grin on his face and his cheeks were flushed from the cold wind.

"Maybe I'm not hating the bike," I didn't want to admit it but I had really enjoyed the bike ride. Alec's grin grew triumphant.

"Stop being so happy and come on," I punched him lightly on the shoulder and started climbing the steps towards the entrance.

Alec fell in step with me and struggling to conceal the grin that was plastered across his face. I found it strange how quickly things between us had changed. It was like the bonding ceremony had shifted something between us. It made it hard to imagine that he had only moved in next door a few short weeks ago.

The smell of old books filled my nostrils. I don't remembering it smelling this strongly in here before. I looked over to the European history section, Alec was staring at the shelves with a look of despair. I could tell that there was so many other things that he would rather do than study. I walked over to him.

"How much are you enjoying yourself right now?" I couldn't help but to tease him.

"So much, it's like the best way to spend a Sunday," his voice was full of fake excitement and he did a sarcastic little dance of joy. I couldn't help but to laugh at him.

"This won't take long. Let me have a look," my hands moved familiarly across the shelves pulling out books and handing them to Alec.

"Yep, I think we're about done now," I looked over at Alec and the stack of books he was holding.

"Sit over there?" he threw his head in the direction of a small table in a quiet corner.

"Sure."

The small table was strewn with books and I had started organise them based on which subjects might be appropriate. I was finding it difficult to choose but Alec was more practical, steering us away from things that would be to complex to paint on the wall. Alec twisted in his chair and I could sense that he wanted to talk, I looked up from the book I had been reading.

"So, I feel like there is so much that I should tell you. I keep forgetting that it's all new to you and that there are so many things that you don't know."

"Okay?"

"I know that Rose told you to be careful around the wolves."

I nodded back at him.

"She didn't really tell me why I should be careful. Is there a specific reason?"

"There are many reasons why Cleo..."

I could tell that he didn't know where to start. But something told me that it would be important for me to listen. My instincts were telling me to listen to him.

"Just start wherever," I said, hoping it would help him.

"Okay," he smiled a little at me, "So I know that Jackson's the alpha. I could smell it on him."

"What do you means smell?"

"Try it next time you are around him and his friends. Each normal human has their own individual smell. If you focus on your sense of smell around a Basati you can tell that there is a two tone scent."
