Carousel

I was humming to Carousel out of habit during gym. Nobody was paying attention to our instructor, Mr. Kirk, a majority of the students were groups of friends exchanging schedules and about how their summer went, boring stuff like that. I guess this is normal considering it is the first day of school. New faces, new teachers, new classes, and most importantly: new beaus.

Scanning the bleachers containing the people I will be stuck with for 1st period for the rest of the year, AKA my class peers, I don't notice anybody even close to meeting my BOTM (beau-of-the-moment) standards. I set the bar real low, given the fact that I'm usually not the apple of anyone's eye. Yeah, I've been asked out a good number of times, half were dares. I lean more towards the "as if" attitude when it comes to girlfriends.

I don't base my interests off physical appearance, as long as their eyes are brown. I don't have anything against "colored" eyed girls, I just prefer eyes of a darker tone. "Popular" isn't my type either, I'd rather not have my personal relationship status become everyone's business. Plus, I hate how the cliques full of jackasses think they can just pick and choose their beau like "I'm going to make so-and-so mine" because no, ... just no. I mean if you're going to be like "I'm going to try and woo so-and-so" then that's another story, you can't just choose and force relationships. You have to win them over, work hard for it, you know?

As I'm trying to focus on whatever it is Mr. Kirk is telling us, I notice I'm very awkwardly staring at someone. I look away casually, but 5 minutes later I can't help but notice he's been staring at me too. With my curiosity killing me, I look back at the area he was sitting, and he's gone!

"Allen."

He says offering his hand, startling me because he somehow managed to move into the space next to me within the past 2 minutes.

Trying to not look so startled, i manage to shake his hand and reply,

"Jackson."
