Shattering Roses

No Matter What

Today's the day,

I felt like it would never come,

But it has,

I'm leaving my best friend,

We never thought it would ever happen that we had to make our good-byes after we knew each other for years,

We stare into each others' eyes,

We see the pain,

Sadness,

Loneliness,

...Fear,

That's when our visions blur,

And we no longer see each other,

But only feel the warm rain on our cheeks and hands,

We hug each other,

She says good-bye,

I say good-bye,

I get into the car,

I roll down the window,

The car begins to move farther and farther away from her,

She begins to dash,

Then yells the very words that now run my life,

"Good-bye! I'll never forget you! We'll meet again, right?! After all, good-bye doesn't mean forever!"

I yell back,

"Yeah... Of course! We'll meet again no matter what!"

We waved until not even a hawk could see us,

But that was a long time ago,

The doorbell rings,

I open it,

"Hi. I just moved here. I came to introduce myself. I'm Ariel."

"I'm Florence. Welcome to the neighborhood."

We shake hands,

We stare into each others' eyes,

At that moment,

We each knew,

Tears streamed down our cheeks,

We hugged,

We simultaneously say,

"Long time, no see... My friend."
