Saber's P.O.V

"Really? It had to be today?"

Helen shifted impatiently in the backseat. Our packed backpacks took up space; forcing us to sit on each other uncomfortably. We were on our way to pick up Jett from his mother's work, and it just so happened to be on a special day. My stationery visit at Jett's place for New Year's earned me a huge headache the next morning; a hangover, in other words. The small vehicle slowly came to a sluggish halt when it was in front of the building. The passenger's seat was reserved for the missing birthday boy. Lucas turned to face us from the driver's seat.

"So who's gonna get the big boy?" He asked.

"Can I go get him? It's fucking cramped in here!" Helen protested, unbuckling the polyester seat belt.

"I'll go with Helen if you want," Chad volunteered. Lucas nodded his head and Helen consented and waited for him. After that, they walked into the building. I muffled an incoming yawn with my sleeve, and gaped when a large, ebony crow sailed recklessly by the window. I stared at the dark creature, which regained its posture in midair and vanished into the trees.

"That bird is me when it comes to responsibilities," Lucas grumbled lightly. I smiled.

"Despite being the oldest, you are the most foolish out of all of us," I purposely mocked him. He grunted.

"Despite being the youngest, you are the most lifeless out of all of us," He looked back to see my reaction. I shook my head, grinning.

I never took Lucas's comments or comebacks seriously. He may utter the worst of me, but he can definitely make anyone smile.

"Oh, Look. They're back,"

Helen and Chad held Jett as if he were drunk and helped him get inside the car. I observed in amusement. Finally, we all got seated and headed to Jett's house. His mother requested us to pick him up at her work since he skipped school today because of his wisdom teeth removal appointment. Jett began to mumble nonsense and question his surroundings. He was oblivious to the fact that he was embarrassing himself. My stomach ached from the laughter I tried to hold in. Helen let out her screams of joy and and roared in laughter. Loud chuckles and violent coughs were heard from Chad as he struggled to videotape Jett directly. Lucas tried to focus on the road as best as he could, even though he was the closest to witnessing the ridiculous sentences Jett kept mumbling out. Not only did Jett jerk his head sideways, he was also drooling all over himself. The nitrous oxide still seemed to have a big effect on him.

"Fucking Jett! You're getting it everywhere! I don't need a second car wash!" Lucas protested heatedly. Helen kept holding her sides and tried to surpass a giggle.

As we parked in the Barks' driveway, we ardently unbuckled the seat belts and tackled our way out of the vehicle.

"Saber! You stay with this lame boy until we tell you to get inside!" Lucas called out to me as he helped Chad carry some soda bottles. A strident, yet emphatic groan escaped my lips when I was given the responsibility. I strolled over to the passenger seat and opened its door. Jett studied me closely with his blue eyes, and his swollen pink cheeks made him look like he was suffering internally. I gave him a sympathetic smile. I had the urge to hug him and caress his face. My tendency around Jett had changed quite drastically since October. With enough willpower and self control, I was able to help him out of the car without satisfying my inner desires.

"S-Saber!" Jett whined as he sat on the bench. We were sitting outside on a wooden bench, in the front yard. I gently pressed an ice pack on his swollen cheek. Instantly, he flinched at the contact of the material and pushed me away.
