Oh, this is hard... I have a long list of my fave authors on my profile. If I had to choose 1 book (rip all my fave series)... I guess I'd have to go with "Roverandom" by J.R.R. Tolkien. It's so cute. He made the story up on the spot for his youngest son when they were on vacation and he lost his favorite toy dog. It's the little dog's adventure's basically.
