Chapter 52

Harry's POV
Finally my shift was over and me and Rachel were on the way home, "you hungry babe?" I asked her
"Starving haz!! Hospital food sucks" she sighed
"Want takeout?" I laughed
"Yeah can we have Chinese?" She asked
"Of course we can babe, I'll order it when we get in.
When we got in Rachel went and put her pjs back on and I phoned for food and told Sophie she could come over as well.
By the time we had finished food Rachel was falling asleep so she went up to bed so me and Sophie watched a film before heading to bed because we both had work tomorrow and Rachel is going to school.

I dropped Rachel off at school and drove me and Sophie into work where we started our shift for today.
"Bella Evans?" I called and the 17 year old girl walked towards me "hi Bella take a seat" I said closing the door and sitting at me desk "what can I do for you?" I asked
"Well my periods are kind of.." She started but stopped
"Go on love, no need to be embarrassed I'm sure I've heard it all before" I encouraged her gently
She nodded and continued "it's really heavy and really painful" she said flushing a bright shade of red
"Okay, it's nothing to worry about I'm sure but how about I check you over real quick and I'll see what I can do?" I said and she nodded "come over to the bed for me then" I said and she followed me over "are you on a period now?" I asked and she nodded flushing an even deeper shade of red "okay that's fine, just going to check you over, nothing to worry about" I said and she nodded. I checked her pulse, bp, eyes, nose, throat, chest and I was now moving on to her abdomen "lay back for me love, I'm going to feel your tummy a little just let me know if it's too painful or you want me to stop okay?" She nodded and took a deep breath as I started to feel her abdomen I got about half way through and she said "it hurts too much can you please stop?" As the tears left her eyes
"Of course, that's fine" I said as I sat her back up "come back over to the desk for me babe" I asked and she again followed me over and sat down, I handed her a tissue and she thanked me "I'm really sorry" she said
"No need to be sorry love, I didn't want to hurt you, it's okay to say stop honest" I smiled at her "so when you said your periods were really heavy, can you be more specific?" I asked and she she just looked at me clearly embarrassed "would you feel more comfortable if I went to get a female nurse to join us?" I asked and she nodded "would you mind?" She asked
"Of course not, I'll be right back" I said and left to get someone, I turned the corner from my office and saw Sophie "you busy babe?" I asked
"No why?"
"I need you to come with me, my patient has period problems and is a little uncomfortable" she nodded and followed me to my office. I walked in and sat in my chair and Sophie pulled the spare to sit next to me. "This is Sophie" I told Bella and she nodded "so can you tell me know? How heavy are you periods?" I asked gently and she just looked at Sophie
"Do you use pads or tampons?" Sophie asked
"Pads" she replied
"Okay so how many would you use on a normal period?"
"Between three and four packets of the night time ones"
"So somewhere between thirty and forty?" Sophie said and she nodded. "Okay" Sophie smiled
"Has your periods always been this heavy?" I asked
"No only for the last year I think it's been"
"Okay, well what I'll do is, I'll book you you're a specialist to make sure everything is as it should be and for the time being ill give you some strong painkillers, does that sound okay?" I asked and she nodded. I gave her a prescription and referral appointment before she thanked us and left.
"Thanks soph" I smiled and give her a kiss
"No problem, poor girl I wouldn't have told you any of that at her age" she said and I laughed at her. She then left and sent my next patient in for me.
There was a knock on my door a few seconds later "come in" I shouted and a young women walked in "sit down love" I said and she did "my name is Harry, and your Scarlett?" I asked and she nodded "great, what can I do for you?"
"I've had this cold all week but my throat is getting worse not better" she croaked at me
"Okay love, no problem, can I take have a look?" I asked grabbing my light and tongue depressor, she nodded and opened her mouth. I pushed her tongue down and her throat was really inflamed and she clearly had tonsillitis "thanks love, you've got tonsillitis you have and a pretty bad case to be honest, all I can really do for now is give you some antibiotics to try" o said and she nodded "it's a 5 day course bit if your still suffering after the 5 days I want you to come back and see me okay?" Again she just nodded "here you go then and rest as much as possible stay quiet and drink plenty of water" I said handing her the prescription and she left.
It has been one of the longest days ever, I've been so tired I just can't wait to leave, one more patient and I will be done.
"Ryan Harris?" I called to the almost empty waiting room but no one moved, I looked to the receptionist who pointed at a young boy sat on the corner, I walked over to him and sat down "Ryan?" I asked and he looked up at me "would you like to follow me to my office?" I asked
"I'm sorry I'm just going to leave" he said as he stood up
"Hey wait a minute, your here now why don't you just come with me for a chat?" I asked and he thought for a moment before nodding and following me back, we went on and sat down "what did you come here for today then Ryan?" I asked
"I-I missed" he started but stopped
"Go on your alright" I said
"I missed my tetanus at school so I was told I need it here" he said
"Okay that's fine, I can do that for you now" I said and he went white as a ghost "are you scared?" I asked while I grabbed the needle and everything and he just nodded "there's nothing to be scared of honest, it's just a little scratch, I'll be done before you know it" I said and he just stared at me and I put my gloves on "can you pull your sleeve up for me?" I asked as I grabbed the wipe and opened it, he did and I could see his hands shaking and he was tensed up, I cleaned his arm off and got the needle ready, I removed to cap but covered it slightly "try and relax for me" I said as I held his arm ready "let your arm go floppy, relax your shoulders all the way" I said but he didn't move "okay just come over to the bed for me" I said as I put the cap back on and grabbed the tray, he followed me slowly and sat on the bed "just lay down and relax" I said and he now looked a little more relaxed "there we go, that's great just stay nice and relaxed for me" I said and removed the cap once again "sharp scratch on three" o said and he nodded "1,2,3" I said and inserted the needle, I pushed on the plunger but before I could remove it he passed out, I grabbed the gauze and removed the needle replacing it with that and taping it down. I disposed of my equipment and waiting for him to come around. I a few seconds later he was awake again "it's okay just stay there for a little while, you passed out that's all" I said as he went to sit up so he just layed back down and nodded. I let him lay there for a few minutes "sit up nice and slowly for me now" I said "how do you feel?"
"I'm okay now, thank you" he replied so I told him he was free to leave and packed my stuff away and headed home.
