Chapter Five

I just finished praying Zuhr salah and glance at the clock. 2pm. Another hour or so until my mysterious roommate arrives. I decide to take a shower since the heat and my nerves have drenched me in sweat. I try to calm my heartbeat and let the water calm me down, to no avail. Eventually I give up and step out of the shower. I wear a cute beige knee length kaftan with brown leggings and a pair of bronze sandals. I find applying makeup therapeutic, so I take my time doing this while allowing my hair to air dry. To finish of my look, I attempt pin my beige chiffon hijab in an Emirati style.

I glance at the clock again, 2.45pm. I stand out on the balcony and fiddle with my thumbs nervously as I overlook the crystal blue waters.

*knock knock*
I freeze. Why was she home early?! And why is she knocking on the door?! To make it more awkward for me? Nice.

I gulp and take a look at myself in one of the full length mirrors in our room one last time before walking over to the door. I wipe my hand against my kaftan to avoid a sweaty handshake, and slowly open the door...
