On December 27th, I was scheduled to go on a famous private wilderness retreat in Alaska. A few hours into the flight, trouble arose."Get ready for a bumpy flight, Cortez." yelled Jeff, the pilot of a small reserved bush plane. "You ready for this great wilderness retreat into the mountains of Alaska." he added. "Yeah, I'm..." I was cut off by a sudden bump. "What was that?" I asked. "Turbulence maybe." replied Jeff. Suddenly there was another bump, nearly throwing me from my seat. "Hold on, their seems to be a problem with the engine." yelled Jeff. Suddenly, the plane began to descend rapidly toward the mountainside. "Hang on Cortez." yelled Jeff. I grabbed my survival gear and headed to the back of the small plane. "Jeff, we're going to have to jump!!!" I screamed. "Here, there's only one parachute, take it and jump." yelled Jeff. Suddenly, the plane slid off of the mountainside, losing a wing. Then, the small plane crashed through the trees of the snowy forest. Everything went black.

A few moments later I crawled out of the wreckage, lucky to be alive. I grabbed my gear and searched the wreck. Then, I saw Jeff, he was laying under a tree. He was dead, possibly from being thrown out and crashing into a tree. "Jeff, I'm sorry. I'm sorry man, I'm sorry I couldn't help you." I yelled. I grabbed a small shovel from my gear, and began to dig a shallow grave. After dragging his body and burying it in piles of snow, I grabbed my hunting knife and began crafting a cross. I prayed over his grave and went back to the wreckage, looking for anything useful. "I can't believe he's dead. Why him and not me?" I thought to myself, while grabbing my gear. My survival gear included a flashlight, a journal, matches, a junior recurve bow, 7 arrows, a hunting knife and a tomahawk. It also came with 3 packs of beef jerky and peanut butter. I was given a snowy Indian styled outfit. "Hopefully, I can survive out here in the wilderness" I thought to myself. I needed to get a fire started and a lean-to shelter built. I grabbed the matches from my gear and found two sticks to start a fire with but the sticks were soaked. I grabbed my knife and started cutting into the bark of a pine tree, to get soft timber. After doing so, I grabbed what looked like hay from the wreckage. Surprisingly, it burned slow enough that it seem to last forever. After maintaining a fire, I cut long sturdy limbs off of the tree. I placed them standing up, so that they were leaning off the tree. I grabbed a lot of pine branches and tied them to the long limbs to make a type of roof that would keep me and the fire dry. Luckily, the wood was moist enough so that it didn't burn. While I made the shelter, day began to turn to night. "Time to call it a day." I said to myself. I grabbed my jerky and peanut butter and decided that was going to be my dinner. I also had at least 5lbs. of tea in my bag. As I boiled the water for my tea, I heard wolves howling in the distance. "I'm pretty sure every creature in the forest heard the plane crash." I said to myself. I grabbed my blanket and blew out a makeshift candle which wasnt really a candle at all just a few twigs I set on fire to have more light, to call it a night. But before i fell asleep, i felt it was only right to record what had occured today, so i grabbed my journal out of my bag and began to write.
Dear Journal: Today, I lost a pilot and a friend. I miss Jeff and wish he had made it out of that crash alive. But i know he is with you now God. I hope you watch over me as i try to find a way out of this situation. I'm thankful to be alive now as i write this. I will try to write every night to keep track of my progress or worse case scenario if someone happens to come across my deceased corpse then they'll be able to read about the person I once was. Today has been a tragedy but only the strong survive. So until next time...
