Chapter 1: We Made It

Maddy's POV

"Maddy wake up." My roommate shook me awake. "We're going to be late for training!"

I opened my eyes and turned to my alarm clock that read 5:47. "Oh shit," I muttered under my breathe. "Thanks Abbey."

I quickly got out of my twin sized bed and pulled on my sweatpants and hoodie. Thankfully they have a locker room at the stadium where we could get dressed and keep our stuff otherwise we'd be late. I quickly brushed my long brown hair and threw it into a ponytail and we were out.

Abbey and I both attend the collage Alex Morgan played soccer for, University Of California. We've been attending this soccer training/camp they do to get on the team and today is the last day, which means they'll be announcing who made the team. It's almost summer break so if I didn't make the team (and I hope i do) I'd go to a new collage in the fall*. I do have a HUGE setback though. I had injured myself just before the training started so I had to join a couple weeks in, which hurts my chances of making the team. This is my second year playing for the team (hopefully I make it) and I really enjoyed playing last season so I'm really excited.

Once we got to the stadium, it was 6:00 a.m. We were just on time. We went to the locker room and got ready in our shorts and t-shirts that provided us with. Today we would just be running so I slipped on tennis shoes and made my way to the turf.

Once every girl was out there on the sideline, coach started speaking.

"Welcome to your last day of training. Today I know you were expecting to run, but I decided that's not very fun." Coach flashed a smile. "We will be announcing the team first. Then, we will go down to the film room and watch a documentary about the one and only, Cristiano Ronaldo!"

Almost every girl groaned, knowing coach was obsessed with Ronaldo. I, for one, am very excited to compare Ronaldo to Dani, and yes, Dani Alves. Dani's mom is my fathers sister. Therefore, me and Dani are cousins.

"But hold in your excitement ladies, we still gotta announce the team." This time every girl squealed, despite the fact that it was 6:10 in the morning.

Abbey grabbed my hand as we stood side by side, waiting for coach to start announcing names.

"The players are,"

Oh god.

"Elizabeth Moore, Melanie Luick, Carly Adams," coach went on and on and I prayed for my name to be called. Coach named about 15 girls before he got to an incredibly familiar name. "Abbey Anderson."

Beside me, Abbey beamed in happiness. I squeezed her hand before she let go to go stand in the like with her new team. Again, coach went on.

"Savanna Weller, Kennedi Eyre, Ivy Leach, and last but not least,"

I held my breath.

"Maddy Herring!"

I let go of my breath and went to go up and stand by Abbey. I felt bad for the 45 girls that remained on the sidelines, dreams crushed.

"Congratulations, girls! I hope to see all of you guys in the film room! And for the rest, have a nice summer! You are all of course welcome to come down to the film room. Good day!"

Coach and the rest of the girls walked off into the appropriate locker rooms and I just stood beside Abbey in complete excitement.

"We did it!" Abbey broke the silence, embracing me.
