Michiko's POV
Darkness.
Everywhere I look, there it is.
I'm drowning in it.
It surrounds me.
I want my mother and father, but every time I think of them, all I see is their lifeless bodies surrounded by their crimson blood.
I never liked the color red, yet I will always remember them stained by the foul color.
If only these images would spill out of my mind as easily as their blood spilled from them.

I woke up crying. My older sister, Kiyomi, wordlessly brought me into a warm embrace. She already knew exactly what had happened. I had the dream all the time. That was the second time that night that it had woken me.
My sobs slowly died down into nothing as she rubbed circles on my back. The tears still came, but I was much calmer. She moved her hands up to my hair, stroking the dark locks soothingly.
"We should get up now," I heard her say. "The maids will come in if we don't." I nodded and took a deep breath before sitting up. Kiyomi sent me a reassuring smile and padded softly over to our bathroom, and after a moment to finish collecting myself, I followed suit.
I was in the midst of brushing my hair when a knock sounded at the door. "Miss Kiyomi, Miss Michiko, I have your uniforms here," a maid's voice called to us, slightly muffled by the door. She paused before continuing, "Your grandparents would like to speak with you over breakfast. They request that you don't keep them waiting too long." Seemingly done with her announcements, the maid stepped away from the door and pittered noisily down the hall. Kiyomi stared after the noise, waiting until the clicking of the maid's heels died down before opening the door.
As soon as the door was shut, I heard Kiyomi scream. Alarmed, I rushed over to her and found her crumpled on the ground. She looked up at me, the unease evident in her eyes. "Uniforms," she whispered. I furrowed my eyebrows, not understanding what she meant—that is until I turned my head.
The first thing I saw was a heap of yellow cloth on the ground. I was immediately nonplussed, but I certainly didn't see it as something worth screaming over. When I picked it up, however, I understood. In my hand was the most hideous dress I had ever seen. I stood up with it in my hands and measured it to myself. It bubbled out at my waist, stopping in a poofy heap halfway down my calf.
This is hideous. Everyone wears these?
I looked at Kiyomi, who had recovered from her initial shock and had started typing furiously on her laptop.
"What are you doing?" I asked her.
"Looking at the boy's uniforms," she replied absentmindedly.
"Why?" I asked. I didn't see the point, but Kiyomi always had good ideas, so I didn't protest.
"I'm going to make a girl's uniform based off of the boy's. Could you send an email or something to the chairman? I don't want to get in trouble for this."
I agreed and started composing an email about our decision. After five minutes of formulating a message comprised of little more than flattering blither, I deemed the message satisfactory and sent it off. Going back to Kiyomi, I saw that she was on the phone with someone.
"How fast can you make a periwinkle blazer for Michiko and me?" she asked. There was a brief pause, and she smiled. "Great. Get some other people on making the black pleated skirts. Have it ready within the hour. I'll have a maid pick them up. Thanks," she told the person on the other end of the phone call. There was another pause, and then Kiyomi hung up. She walked over to the intercom and said, "One of you needs to get over to the designer's place as soon as possible and get the things I ordered once they're finished. Bring them to me when you return." A confirmative response came quickly.
