Cover Up (Tanaka Ryuunosuke X Reader)

You felt the deadly aura around he as he scared off another one of the guys that was pestering you around. "Thanks, Ryu." You two had known each other since middle school, and when he wasn't at volleyball practises thinking about pickup lines with Yuu, he would hang out with you and have real talks about things like the future and just little things you didn't know about the other. He winked at you as he smiled triumphantly.

"Well, he was getting way too close to you, (Fist Name). It's my job to fend them off like the good bo-- friend I am!" He sputtered slightly. Now, you felt a little suspicious of what he said. Thinking about the part he cut himself off, 'bo'. Bottle, bonnet, boy-- Boy friend?

Your eyes widened slightly as you looked at Ryuunosuke with very small hint of smug to be seen, you think he looked a little confident. Probably because he thinks he covered it up well, you thought.

"Don't you have to go to practise now? Daichi-kun and Sugawara-kun will get mad for you slacking off." You inquired, look up at him. He stopped for a moment, then smirked.

"I'd spend all the time in the world with you, (First Name)! But, you're right, Daichi and Sugawara will call me out on it. Plus, Yuu and I have to figure out how to confe-- Er , Nothing!" He looked around, seeming slightly nervous. He seemed a little sketchy, and wanted to ask him about it.

"Well, gotta go, I'll call you after practise (First Name)!" He yelled as he sped off. You thought about what he said and connected the dots. Your face warmed up, wondering if you were right or wrong. You wanted to go to his practises but he said 'not yet', and that he'll take you at the right time. Before, you didn't understand what he meant by that, but now you have an idea.

You started to go home, your mind unwilling to drop the thoughts revolving around Ryuunosuke.

- Time Skip : Some hours later -

You heard your phone ring as you brought it up to your ear. You automatically knew who it was, seeing as only he would call you around now.

"Hey, Ryuu. Just finished practise?" You asked into the device. You heard some shuffling and the sound of two voices whispering to each other.

"Yeah, and, Erm, (First Name)?" He responded, and the whispering could be heard again. This time, it was a little louder, and you recognized who the other voice was. Yuu, you thought.

"Yeah?"

"D-Do you like anyone? Because I do--" he was then cut off, and the whispering started again. Is he confessing to you or something? You thought, pondering over what else he could be talking about.

You then heard static which sounded a lot like crumpling paper. "I'll call you back, (First Name)!" He hung up before you got a chance to respond, so you decided to wait for him to get better reception. Weird, you thought. His phone usually doesn't act out like that. Isn't it new? You started checking out social media, and about 5 minutes later, you hear a knock on the door.

You open it, and noticed it was Ryuu. He held some (Colour) Flowers in his hands.

"(First Name), will you go out with me?" He asked, and you felt your heart squeeze up into a small ball, and then explode into pieces of happiness.

"Yes, I will go out with you, Ryuu!" You grinned as you tackled him into a hug. You noticed Yuu and Saeko jump out from behind her car and start to jump around in joy.

Ryuu puts you down, and looks at you with a grin. "I'll pick you up early tomorrow for my volleyball practise. Be awake!" You nodded as he walked back to Saeko and Yuu, and you waved goodbye to the three.

- next morning -

You woke up, still feeling groggy from not getting enough sleep. You got yourself ready as you get a text from Ryuu.

Come outside, (First Name)! Are you ready?

You quickly fixed your uniform as you ran outdoors, seeing him waiting right outside your door.

"Let's go, (First Name)." He said as you smiled and yawned quietly, hoping he wouldn't hear. Unfortunately, he did.

"(First Name), are you tired?" He questions, and you shake your head.

"No, I'm fine Ryuu. Don't worry." You flashed a smiled at him, but he thought you looked a little sketchy.

The two of you finally made it to the gym, and right before he was about to open it, he yelled, "CODE NAME - (Anime Ship Name)!" You then heard 14 'Yosh!'es from the gym, and you grinned slightly. What could be inside the gym?

You open the door, and the lights are off. You see Ryuunosuke run into the darkness, and he pulls you in. "Ryuu, what is going on?" You ask. He doesn't say anything, but suddenly, a dim light turns on.

"WAIT GUYS, RYUU HAS ALREADY CON--" Yuu and Saeko were shushed again. A bunch of signs are held up, some saying things like, 'Just ask here out already!' And 'Tanaka X (Last Name)'. Your eyes widen as you notice Ryuu starts to freak out.

"GUYS! I thought Yuu and Saeko told you that I already confessed to (First Name)! You guys mixed the code names up!" Ryuunosuke yells.

"HEH?!" Yells the team.

"Er-- We forgot.." Yuu and Saeko scratch the back of their heads.

You started to giggle a little. "This is so sweet, Ryuu."

"But it didn't go out perfectly..."

"I don't care, I love you anyway."

"And to think Tanaka would be the first to start dating..." Tsukishima sneered.

I feel like Tanaka doesn't get enough love tbh like I can't find any fics or anything about him
