“No public displays of affection,” a voice said, somewhat angrily.

Eli was leaning against the locker, his hands on Serena’s hips, her hands tangled in his black hair. Eli pulled away from their passionate kiss and looked into Serena eyes, today more green than brown. She smiled at him while stroking his pale cheek.

“That includes touching.” Eli looked up to see the same girl from Saturday staring at him and Serena with an enraged expression. Serena turned to stare with annoyance clear on her pretty face. “School rules not mine,” the girl said, cocking her head to the side, creepily.

“Who the hell are you?” Serena asked, putting her hands on her hips and putting her game face on. The girl looked at Serena with a sort of envy.

“You don’t know my name but I know yours, Serena Arnold,” she said, smiling slightly.

Serena didn’t even flinch, she stood up straighter, looking this strange girl in the eyes. “Name?”

“Imogen Moreno.”

“Serena!” Jake called from down the hall, waving for her frantically. Serena spared him a glance before yelling:

“One sec!” She turned to Imogen studying her from her cat ears to her crazy played up outfit to her black shoes. “I can handle myself . . . thanks for the concern though.” She turned to Eli, clutching her face in her hands before feverishly kissing him. She looked pointedly at Imogen before going down the hall to meet Jake.

With nothing left to say, Eli turned to begin his journey to his next class when he had the feeling of being followed. He turned to see Imogen behind him, she stopped and stared at him as if he was an exotic creature she was trying to figure out.

“What?” Eli asked, annoyed.

“Doesn’t it bother you?” Imogen asked, walking closer to Eli.

“You mean being followed through the hall? Yes.”

“No, I mean seeing your girlfriend run off with golden boy back there,” Imogen clarified, generally concerned she asked, “Doesn’t it bother you? When Eli didn’t answer she went on. “They’ve been spending a lot of time together lately.”

“They have to,” Eli said through gritted teeth. “They both need the credits.”

“Is that what she told you?” Imogen laughed.

“What are you talking about?” Eli asked, confused. “She said Mr. Simpson told them they both needed more school credits and the school needed more money, so they’re working together and that’s all.”

Imogen laughed again, a sign of insanity underlining the sound. She walked away with Eli yelling behind her, “What are you talking about?”

With no reply.

Eli watched Serena walk down the stairs of Degrassi Community School with Jake. They looked deep in conversation, not even realizing Eli was staring at them. Clare was walking behind them, barely holding onto Jake’s hands because he was walking so close and so fast with Serena.

Serena smiled and said something, leaving with Jake staring after her. She caught up to Eli, smiling and wrapping her arms around his neck. She planted a light kiss on his lips, leaving him craving more.

Eli felt the three pairs of eyes on him, those that belonged to Jake, Clare, and Imogen. “Can we go somewhere and talk?” Eli asked, looking back to the beautiful girl in front of him.

“Of course,” Serena said. “Is something wrong?”

“I . . . I don’t know yet.”

Eli brought Serena to the spot which held many memories for him. He led Serena to the bench which he first kissed Clare, but first really learned about Serena. He took a seat on the table, resting his black boots on the seat.

Serena took a seat on the bench. “What is it, Eli?”

“I heard Mr. Simpson didn’t tell you and Jake to work together to raise money for the school. Why did you lie?”

Serena’s head shot up, her face reflecting anger. “Excuse me?”

“Did you just wanna be close to the golden boy?”

“Eli where did you get all of this from?” Serena asked. She stared at him, right into his emerald green eyes.

“Imogen told me today –” Eli began.

“Imogen?” Serena asked, flabbergasted. “The creepy girl that seems to have a strange interest in you? You listened to something she said? You don’t even know her!” Serena stood and began to pace.

There was silence as Serena continued to pace, mumbling.

“Serena,” Eli said, so softly she couldn’t hear. “Serena,” he said louder.

Serena stopped, hands on her hips. “What, Mr. – I – Listen – To – Other – People – Even – Though – They’re – Crazy!”

Eli couldn’t help the smile playing on his lips. “I’m sorry, you’re right.” Serena looked taken aback for a moment before breaking out into a triumphant grin. “I am Mr. – I – Listen – To – Other – People – Even – Though – They’re – Creepy.”

“Crazy, Mr. – I – Listen – To – Other – People – Even – Though – They’re – Crazy.”

“Crazy,” Eli corrected, walking over to Serena, wrapping his hands on her hips. “I’m sorry, I’m just on edge, honestly, I don’t really like you and Jake hanging out.”

“So, you don’t trust me.”

“I do, I don’t trust him.

“If it bothers you that much, I won’t see Jake anymore.”

Eli smiled like a child on Christmas day. “Thank you.”
