Many months have passed since Flowey and the human, (Y/N), talked and made the promise never to leave Flowey behind. Toriel didn't suspect a thing as well which was good.

Unaware to Flowey, the human was still attempting to retrieve his lost soul and make him able to feel emotions, even though him crying the first time they talked to him proved that Flowey still had a chance. Even if the chance was very, very slim.

No ideas seemed to be approachable which was quickly making them frustrated, but it also fueled their determination to save their new best friend.

The two's relationship was a bit confusing. Flowey still called them names while the human simply smiled and gave them compliments. While with the human making it extremely obvious that they cared for Flowey, he would do it more discreetly. What they didn't know was that there was a new feeling coming alive within him and instead of fading like the others, reason being he is unable to hold onto them for long periods of time, this weird emotion seemed to be growing.

It was as if a blanket was put over him whenever (Y/N) came to visit him and he could almost feel a ghost of a smile. He was even thinking that maybe, just maybe...

He was happy.

That's impossible though, correct? When you're soulless you're supposed to become numb... devoid of emotion... or at least, that's what he was told. So why is it, that this human; this one simple, stupidly courageous and determined human is making him... well... feel?

(Y/N) says that everyone has a special purpose for being here. So... is him being a flower who's supposed to be soulless make him some king of symbol? Hope? Determination? Second chances? Or is this just one big cruel joke for him caring too much for the first fallen human and in the end, dying?

To hell if he knew.

~***~

His heart beat rapidly in his chest as he watched the waning light from the hole above him.

'Where are they? Did something bad happen to them?'

Then one dark thought entered into his mind, making a watery substance he now knew as tears prick his eyes.

'They... they abandoned me... I knew they-'

Loud footsteps crunching on dirt quickly caused his... stem to go fuzzy where his heart was located. His tears quickly dried before he forced on a scowl as (Y/N) came into view, fighting off the smile that wanted to spread at the human's hunched and panting form.

"Took you long enough stupid! You're late!"

The human's (e/c) eyes met his as a soft smile adorned their face before carefully sitting next to the bitter flower. "Sorry about that. I had to wait for Toriel to go to sleep before leaving."

It was quiet before Flowey softly spoke in a monotone voice. "I thought you weren't coming."

They gave a small frown before gently massaging one of Flowey's petals who they learned, really liked it and also calmed him down quite a bit. "I always keep my promises. I'll never abandon my best friend."

There it was. That unknown feeling that seemed to cover Flowey in a warm and fuzzy blanket. A small smile graced his bud before quickly trying to hide it. However, he wasn't quick enough.

(Y/N) gave a soft laugh before laying on their stomach, now face to face with the flower. "Hold up. Was that a smile I saw?"

Quickly Flowey glared before turning his attention away from the human and totally not trying to hide a blush on his face from the close proximity.
