28| Good Thing I Packed Suits

Start from the beginning

I was staring at it for a while that I didn't notice Alec approaching me.

"You should buy that for her," he said with a knowing smile and grabbed my shoulder. "Lighten up, Nate. You're going to see her for goodness sake! The least you could do is be happy about it."

"Yeah, well, if she doesn't hate me then I'll be happy about it," I scoffed. "But I know she hates me, so what's the point of even going there and seeing her? I screwed her over."

"You could make things right," he said.

"She hates me, mate," I said sadly. "She probably won't forgive me. Ever."

"I know it was a complete asshole move what you did to her... and you probably broke her heart into a million pieces. Plus, since she's not the most resilient person when it comes to sadness, she was probably very depressed--," he said but I cut him off.

"Not helping my guilt level here," I said.

"Anyway, you could still make it up to her and explain to her everything," Alec encouraged.

"What am I supposed to say? Oh, Winter, sorry I lied about loving you but I really needed to get away for a while because I want to be my own person and not just be known as your fiancee. Also, I really wanted a life that won't suffocate me every day with paparazzis following my every move. Generally, I was a stupid, selfish teenager. But you know what? Now I'm better and I'm prepared to be there for you every day. I'll be your anchor like the time before I screwed you over. Let's just forget my overall selfishness and move on with our lives," I ranted.

The three of them were looking at me weirdly and it was Charles who spoke first.

"Probably not the best speech to get the girl back but don't worry, we'll have time to prep you for your big day," he said.

"God, I'm fucked," I said and buried my face in my hands.

"You are," they all said in unison.

"Oh and don't forget your Christmas present for her!" Alec said.

The next day, I had all my belongings packed and inside my luggage. I've also said goodbye to my Australian friends and now, the four of us were sitting on the airport benches waiting for our flight.

"She looks so different now," Matthew said as he showed Charles a page in the magazine he's been reading.

"You're right," Charles said as he looked at the magazine closely.

"She looks so... clean cut," Matthew said.

"Yeah, it's a bit weird," Charles said.

"Who are you talking about?" I asked

"Winter," they replied.

"Give me that," I said as I grabbed the magazine from them. Their hands were up in the air in surrender.

Matthew wolf whistled. "The man wants to research. Let's just leave him to it."

I glared at him and averted my gaze to the magazine. There she was on the page, smiling and waving at everybody. She was wearing a tight fit dress that she probably wouldn't even look at 5 years ago. Another picture showed her walking the streets with a phone on her ear and bodyguards all around her.

She's changed a lot.

"She's so different now," Alec commented as he eyed the magazine as well.

"Good thing I packed suits," I said with a nervous smile on my face.

The speakers informed us that we are boarding and we all stood up, our luggage on tow. But before we could walk further, the paparazzi appeared out of nowhere. I wore my sunglasses and avoided their cameras.

"Mr. Brooks, are you going to be visiting the Princess this Christmas?"

"Mr. Brooks, what happened with you and your girlfriend?"

"Is it because you and the Princess of United Kingdom are getting back together?"

"What's your Christmas gift for the Princess, Mr. Brooks?"

"My presence," I muttered but it turns out one of the paparazzi heard me.

"He said his presence!"

"So you are going to United Kingdom then?"

"Mr. Brooks, why do you have a magazine with the Princess' face on it?"

After we were guided away from the paparazzi, we finally boarded the plane.

"Let's go see your girl," Charles said with a smirk as our plane took off.
