16. Something that Happens before the Trial

(A/N: I just read Hanji's page on the wikia, and... something really interests me. It gave me the idea to write this chapter...

"A trial?" Aile raised a brow. She was walking along the hallway of the Survey Corps HQ with Moblit, Hanji's other assistant. "Ah, so that's why we're getting a day off today."

The brunet nodded, "I heard that trial is about the titan-shifter boy, and it will decide  whether he will join us or the Military Police." "I still can't believe it, but if there really is a human who can turn into a titan, he must join us at all costs." Aile clenched her fist. 

Moblit nodded in agreement. "I--" "Oi, you two."

Levi's rough voice suddenly barged in, surprising the two a bit. They turned around and found the said man was standing crossing his arms, a scowl was adorning his face. "Do any of you see four-eyes?"

The two exchanged glance."Isn't she in her office, as always?" Aile asked, and was replied with a scoff. "No, she isn't, and that lair is in total mess it gave me headache."

"We actually haven't seen her since last night after the experiments, Sir." Moblit emphasized. As Levi glanced at him, Moblit did the bravest thing that none of the Survey Corps members could ever do: staring back into his eyes.

Fortunately Levi paid no heed to him and looked at Aile again, "She's missing, and the trial is going to start twenty minutes from now." "What?" Aile and Moblit widened their eyes in shock as Aile exclaimed, "Where did she go?!"

"If I knew I wouldn't ask." Levi deadpanned.

"We've got to find her, Moblit!" Aile turned to see Moblit in a sudden, making the brunet's cheeks flushed for a second, "That Hanji!" "Uh, right!" Moblit quickly regained his composure as he nodded. Aile turned to Levi again, "Levi, leave it to us! You wait here!"

"Wha- Aile?!" Moblit had no time to protest, as Aile suddenly pulled him by his wrist. He glanced at Levi, and noticed that the short captain unlike his usual expresionless face, was showing an expression.

And that expression... what was it? Whatever it was, it quickly sent chills down Moblit's spine. "A-Aile, where are we going to?" Moblit stuttered as he looked front.

"The experiment site, isn't it obvious?" Aile replied while still dragging Moblit, "Last time we saw her was yesterday, after the experiment was over. She told us to go ahead because she still wanted to stay a little bit longer, didn't she?"

"Oh... you're right..."

"She probably lost track of time and fell asleep there. Which explains her messy room, or lair," Aile glanced over her shoulder and paused, "...now that you know, would you please release your hand from mine?"

"Huh?" Moblit looked at his hand which was joined with Aile's, and he just realized that it wasn't Aile who kept their hands joined, but it was his. "S-Sorry!" Moblit quickly pulled his hand back. 

Aile nodded before rubbing her wrist, "That's better now... why were you doing that, anyway?"

'If I knew I would tell you...' Moblit inwardly answered. His thoughts made him recalled Levi's face earlier, and quickly discovered the reason. He immediately started shivering as he tried to push the thought away. 'I regret doing that to him...'

Three minutes after, the duo arrived at the experiment site. "Mornin', Sawney, Bean!" Aile raised her hand, greeting the titans. The titans hissed as if greeting her back, which made Moblit shuddered again. "Now, where is our dear squad leader?" Aile put her hands on her hips as her gaze roamed the surroundings.

Moblit looked around, and somehow his eyes couldn't be taken off from Sawney. He didn't know why but his feet dragged him towards the titan. '...why was I here again?' Moblit quickly shook his head and proceeded to go away, before he could hear a loud snore coming from the titan.

"...hey, Aile... does titan snore?"

"Huh, does it?"

Aile soon stood beside him, raising one brow. Aile's eyes followed after Moblit's finger, which pointed at Sawney. "...oh, you found her! Good job, Moblit!"

"What?" Moblit blinked. Aile gestured at him and walked, heading towards the side of the pinned to the ground titan. Moblit reluctantly followed after her and the sight that immediately greeted him made his eyes widened. "Squad leader Hanji?!"

Leaning against the titan's hip was their squad leader, Hanji, cuddling. "That's so gross, Hanji!" Aile yelled exasperatedly at the sleeping woman while Moblit just stood in silence, dumbstruck. "Wake up, you lazy bum!"

Hanji squirmed in her sleep and tossed around without showing any sign of waking up. "This calls for drastic measures," Aile nodded to herself before looking at Moblit. "Moblit, are you ready?"

"What? What are we gonna do?" Moblit curled his eyebrows. Aile opened her mouth to answer, "Drag her back to the HQ." "What?!" Moblit's eyes widened again.

"B-But how are we going to do that?"

"Hmm... you grab her left, while I'm her right."

"Eh? You mean left leg?"

"Obviously."

"But that's so wrong, Aile!"

"I know, but we don't have any other choice. There's not much time left!"

Groaning, the brunet reluctantly did as what told. "Urk, Hanji, why must you be this tall? And heavy!" Aile gritted her teeth as she struggled to drag Hanji away from the titan. The glasses woman still had her eyes shut as she began to muttered in her sleep. "Hey, are you awake now?"

"I believe she's sleeptalking," Moblit let out a grunt as he also pulled Hanji. His face soon wrinkled upon smelling a bad odor. "Aile, do you smell it?" "Yeah, and that's so gross!" Aile shuddered.

The two stopped for a moment, exchanged baffled looks before simultaneously looking down at Hanji. "It can't be, that's coming from her?!" they chorused. Now that they looked at Hanji closely, she was layered in titan's mucus from head to toe, which must be the cause of that smell.

"What are you two doing?" Levi suddenly appeared behind them. As in cue the two looked at the man, whose eyes had fixed on Hanji. "So you've found her... what the hell?!" Levi quickly covered his nose as he could also smell the odor, "What's with this disgusting smell?!"

"It's Hanji! She's covered in Sawney, I mean titan's mucus!" Aile shouted back in annoyance, "And she won't wake up!"

"....Tch," Levi simply clicked his tongue and without saying any words took Hanji's legs from Aile and Moblit, then abruptly dragged her away.

Meanwhile Aile and Moblit could only blink their eyes, confused to what just happened before quickly ran to catch up with him.

"Levi, where are you dragging her?"

"The restroom. We're bathing her."

"Oh I see... Huh, wait, we?!"

"We don't have much time, so yes, we."

"B-But she's a girl!"

"You, too."

"But I ain't bathing with you!"

"We're bathing her, not you."

"Why are you saying that with such straight face?!" Aile whined, with her cheeks burn in embarrassment. The girl turned her face and saw Moblit's cheeks were burning bright red.

"What are you blushing at, Moblit?! You perv!!"

(A/N: So Aile's calm personality becomes wilder when she feels really angry or grossed out or embarrassed. She also acts eccentric sometimes when around titans, due to Hanji's influence... hehehe. Hope you enjoyed this!)
