Chapter 5 Clarke

Clarke started trekking through the woods and out of a sudden a boy with a worn out gray beanie and scruffy hair came up next to her. "Hi I'm Finn...and you must be the princess". "Princess?" She replied. "Nah, just trying to keep this group alive". "So you don't like to be called princess, do you princess?" He replied. She gave a small giggle. "I'm Clarke, and you're the one who wasted 3 months of oxygen on the Ark,right?". "Yeah". He replied. Just then Octavia, the sister of the rude douchebag came running up to us. "I'm Octavia" she said all squirmy. "I'm Finn" he replied. Then he walked forward from us. "Before you get any ideas, Finn is mine" she told Clarke. "News flash, I don't care" Clarke said sternly. It has now been 2 hours since they left camp and a smile creeped up on Clarke's face..they found a river. "We don't have to worry about water" a tall skinny boy by the name of Jasper said. Then Octavia pulled down her pants and jumped in the water. "Octavia what the hell are you doing?!" Clarke asked and yelled. But by that time Octavia already was in the water. The kids all laughed. "Octavia I can't swim" Jasper's friend Monty said sadly. "Yeah but we can stand" she replied. Octavia the stood up, the water luckily was only waist high. "I never read that a stream would be here" Clarke said in awe. "Well there is so take off your damn clothes" Finn replied. We all started to take off our shoes when Jasper saw a huge snake in the water. "Octavia get out of the water now!" Jasper screamed. By the time Octavia turned around the snake already grabbed her. "Ahhh, help me!!" She screamed. Clarke and Monty pushed down a giant bolder to distract it from Octavia. Then Jasper went in to save Octavia. The snake was coming back, they had to pull them out quick. Thankfully,They pulled Jasper and Octavia out just in time. "Thank you" she said weakly and pulled Jasper in a hug. Clarke noticed that Octavia was scratched, she pulled a piece of Jasper's shirt and made it as a bandage for Octavia's scratch. "Note to self, next time save the girl" Monty happily said and slapped Jasper on the back. Clarke was relieved and so was everyone else. Clarke knew now that they had to be more careful. She knew now that there were animals on earth, at least mutated animals. They started walking again and it was almost nightfall. Clarke saw Finn placing a flower in Octavia's hair."Now that my friend is game" Clarke heard Jasper say to Monty. "That my friend is poison sumac" Monty replied. "What?!" Octavia said in surprise and quickly shook it off her hair. "Don't worry, poison sumac is actually medicinal, it's very soothing" he replied to Octavia. "So I gotta ask, what did you guys do to get in confined?" Finn asked. "Well poison sumac wasn't the only medicinal herb on the ark if you know what I mean" Monty replied for Jasper and himself. "What did they get you for Octavia?" Monty asked. "Being born that's what" she replied in an irritated voice. "Now that my friend is not game" Monty said. "What about you Clarke?" Finn asked this time. "My father was an engineer on the ark and he found out that the ark only had 1 year worth of oxygen left. He told us that it wasn't a glitch it was a system failure, he wanted to go public and the council disagreed,my mother disagreed ,I told Wells as a secret but he told his father anyway and my father got floated. They confined me because they thought I knew too much and to prevent me from telling the ark they confined me. That's why today, that's why they had the experiment" she said. "Wow so that's why you were confined?" Finn asked surprisingly. "For what they did to me, I say float them all" Octavia said irritated. "You don't mean that" Jasper said running after her. "Hey look!" Finn grabbed Clarke's attention. "Do you see it?,it's a deer" he said, then all of them became quiet and smiled. This was the first animal that was not trying to kill them all. Finn stepped forward and a twig snapped. The dear turned around. "Oh geez" Jasper said disgusted and surprised. The dear really was another mutant. The dear had a second head..the radiation has really mutated every animal a live. Finn was really disturbed by what he saw,so was Clarke. "Come on let's go" Finn said. "I agree" Octavia replied. That night they found a place to sleep, Clarke noticed Octavia slept next to Jasper. Monty was sleeping near them too, but she couldn't find Finn. So she got up and she saw an amazing glow-in-the-dark forest. She walked up to a tree and their leaves were glowing a beautiful light blue. It was probably the radiation she said thought, then she saw a figure coming towards her. "Finn?". "Hey, I thought you'd be thirsty" . He had brought her a some water from the stream. She took a sip, "you call that a sip?" He asked her expectantly. She took a larger sip, truth to be told she was thirsty. "Ok I found some foot prints and I think the belong to monkeys" he said. "Pft" she laughed. "What do you know she can laugh" he said. She smiled again. "Come let me show you" he lead her to a trail where there was a pair of 4 feet. "See the trail, they look like monkey tracks" he said happily. "I've read in the earth books that there was no life on earth, especially not monkeys" she said in surprise. "We'll have you read about giant man-eating snakes, two headed deers, and glow-in-the-dark forests?". He had a point, a big point. "Yeah you're right" she replied. "I'm gonna get some rest, we need to keep hiking tomorrow" she said, she was tired. "Good night princess" he replied. She smiled again and with that she went to sleep. The next morning they kept hiking and then they came across another stream and this time there was a vine hanging from a tree. "I guess that's the only way across, who's going first?" Finn asked, looking very exited. Jasper was next to him on the rock. "It's like we are the Apachee" Finn said. "It's Apagee not Apachee" Jasper corrected him. "Stop stalling Finn just go already" Clarke said annoyed. "Aye aye captain" and Finn gave Clarke a salute. "Wait....let me go first" Jasper said in a nervous tone. "You sure you got this?" Finn asked. "Yeah" Jasper said very nervously. "Don't worry bud you got this" he said in a very assuring tone. "Just don't fight the fear,ok" . Finn said again assuringly. Then Jasper swung on the vine and screamed. Then he landed with a thud. We all looked if he was ok. Then he screamed "we are Apagee!!" . We all cheered and laughed. Then he pulled out a sign out of the ground. It was a sign that said "mount weather 10 miles". We cheered even louder. We were almost there. Then out of a sudden a spear hit Jasper in his chest area. She screamed "Jasper, no!!". We all then hid under a rock. "We need to get out of here now!" Finn said. We all started to run as fast as we can. We were running and Monty tripped over a skeleton and a skull. "What the hell is this?!" he asked in fear. "Not what,who" Clarke replied in awe. Then they heard a scream. She started running toward it. "No Clarke leave him! We'll come back for him later" Finn said in rush. Her eyes started to water up, but she was going to be positive about it. They were gonna come back for him. Then they reached camp after 4 hours. "Ok we're safe" Octavia said out of breath. "Octavia!" a voice boomed, it was Bellamy. "Are you alright?" He asked in a worried tone. Then he turned to us "where's the food?" He asked demandingly. Finn replied "we didn't get there". "What the hell happened out there?!" He asked in a outrageous voice. "We were attacked" Clarke answered this time, irritated. "By what?". "Not what, who" Finn answered. "What?!" He raised his voice again. "We were attacked by grounders" Clarke answered. "Turns out the last man on earth wasn't the last" Finn said. "The good news is that we will survive, the radiation won't kill us" Clarke said in an assuring voice. "The bad news
is the grounders will" Finn said. Then Wells asked "where's the kid with the goggles?". "Jasper was hit" Clarke replied worried. "Wait, where is your wristband?" Clarke asked in a worried voice. "Ask him, he made me take it off" Wells said in anger. "How many?!" She asked this time furious. "24 and counting" Murphy replied in a smirk. "You idiots!, life support on the ark is failing, they need to know whether earth is survivable otherwise they won't come down here" Clarke said in a angry voice. Bellamy rolled his eyes "we're stronger than you think,don't listen to her she's one of the privileged! How many of you can say the same, that we can take care of ourselves!". Yeah!! A bunch of kids screamed. She didn't have time for this nonsense. "Hey where are you going?" Wells asked in surprise. "Going to save Jasper" those where her final words before she went to the dropship and started packing.
