Book 2 of the Bloodlust series

Buddhist Monastery Of Ki, Himachal Pradesh, India.

"Clean your mind, feel the nature around you, listen to the trees talk, hear the grass sing and the leaves whisper." The monk's words were calm, melodic and soft.

She breathed deeply, trying to clear her head, but still couldn't. The thought of finally being able to get out of that place was winning over her will.

"Feel your body becoming lighter. The spirit being lifted as the soul's being fed." He continued. And the only thing she felt was impatience. She wanted to go already. Her body begged for a hot bath and her aching muscles cried for rest.

She didn't get the whole being a monk thing. One day hard labour the other meditation. Like what the hell?

She had never been good at all of this hard labour thing but she was even worse at meditating, the thought of having her mind empty scared her. And even more, now, she could only focus on one thing. Going home.

It had been too long.

Too long away from everyone she cared about. She breathed deeply. Thinking about it only made her sad, she missed her family, her friends and even more, she missed her.

She knew she had no other choice. If she stayed she would end up hurting her, and she would rather die than to hurt her. She knew she had to go.

The night she left she remembered Aino's words.

"Nature is strong, but your will is stronger"

And so she knew what she had to do. She had to go, she had to learn to overcome her nature. The thing she once found to be her strength was now her biggest weakness. And she was going to overcome it, if not for herself she would do it for love.

Toronto, Canada.

The arrow flew swiftly upwards. Both of their eyes followed the fletching with excitement. They watched as the shaft went up and forwards until it disappeared into the woods outside of their yard.

"Well, I'd say that it's an improvement. Since this time you didn't hit your face with the cord of the bow." Elizabeth said drawing her bow and shooting in a matter of seconds.

The arrow hit the pinhole almost instantly. Elizabeth looked back at her wife with a smirk on her face. Eve was frowning as she looked up at the place where her arrow had disappeared.

"God, I hate you." She said stubbornly, crossing her arms against her chest.

"No, you don't. You love me." Her wife answered, kissing her pouting lips, making her frown disappear almost instantly.

"That may be, but still, I don't see the need for learning archery. And that's without counting all the other stuff you're trying to teach me. What's the point?"

Elizabeth sighed before answering once more.

"For the thousand time, you need to learn how to protect yourself. You might be stronger now but still. I don't want to take any chances." She said her voice grimly at the end.

"You almost sound like you're sure there is going to be a war." She said emphasizing the word 'is.' Elizabeth just shrugged her shoulders.

"You know how humans are. You lived among them all your life." She got closer.

"Love, I don't want a war. The Gods know I don't, but we have to be prepared."

Both of them turned back as they heard a familiar light footstep followed by a tougher slightly limp one. Elizabeth growled, lowly enough so just Eve could hear her. Eve turned back to her wife with a disapproving look.

"Elizabeth... behave." She warned. Elizabeth just rolled her eyes.

"I can't stand him..." She started but Eve just cut her off before she could finish her sentence.

"It doesn't matter, just be nice." She said then turned towards the footsteps.

Samantha was walking graciously towards them. By her side stood a tall fiery-haired man. Everything about him seemed normal enough until you looked close enough to notice his feet, that were strangely turned backwards.

That peculiar anatomic anomaly was exclusive of his species. A little known species from the Amazon forest. He had moved to Canada a little more than a year ago. Since then he had taken a liking for Samantha, which for the deception of Elizabeth was reciprocated. They had been dating for eight months now, and still, Elizabeth didn't accept him as her daughter's boyfriend.

"Sam, Ka'a, what are you two doing here so early?" Eve asked politely.

She wasn't very fond of him either, but that was only because she knew he wasn't the one for her. Although she did seem very happy with him.

"We came here to see how's the training going. You know how Ka'a loves archery." Samantha said with a bright smile on her face. He nodded.

"Yes, I thought I could come down and give you a few hints." He said smiling. Elizabeth stepped forward.

"Thank you, but I think I can handle teaching my wife." She said coldly. An awkward silence followed. Before Samantha finally said something.

"Yeah, you know how Beth is territorial about Eve. Let's go, you can teach me a thing or two." She said pulling him away and waving towards Eve.

When they were far enough Eve turned towards her wife with a frown.

"It wouldn't hurt you to be nice to him for a change." She scolded. Elizabeth shrugged her shoulders.

"I don't like him."

"That's not the point now, is it? Sam likes him, that's what matters." Eve said simply.

"She doesn't love him. We both know it's not him she loves." Elizabeth said finally.

"Yeah, but he didn't run away. He's safe, and that's what she needs now. What do you want her to do? Sit and wait?"

"She didn't even give her some time!"

"Oh really? Because I do recall her walking around the house like a zombie. For almost a year. I know Sophia is your friend, but she screwed up. You might not believe it, but she ran away, she's not coming back."

"What are you talking about? Of course she is." Elizabeth said stubbornly. Eve breathed deeply before answering.

"We haven't received a word from her in almost two years. Maybe it's time to accept the fact that she..." Elizabeth cut her off.

"Don't you dare finish that sentence. She is fine. She just needs some time." She said in her famous tone that Eve knew meant 'end of discussion.'
