"I don't know, Kayla," I was sitting next to Kayla, my best friend, on her bed. "You said Amy had a friend over, that guy you like?"
"Mhm," Kayla said happily. "Why do you think she invited us over? She knows I like him."
"Yea, I know..." I wasn't sure. We were friends with Amy, good friends, but lately she had been treating us rudely...
"Please? You'll finally get to meet him! He's so cute!" She jeered. She really liked him. Only the day before, when my mom had brought us to the mall, I had spent the whole day taunting her, because any time I said his name she would blush and smile like a freak.
"Fine..." Kayla squealed happily. "Let me call my dad and let him know we're going over there."
"Great! Here, use my phone, your's is still charging."
After I called my dad, of course he had no problem with this, I quickly dressed and brushed my hair and teeth. I didn't look the greatest... But it was just Amy, and I didn't need to impress her friend, what was it, Derek? Kayla already liked him, I didn't need him coming after me like the last three guys Kayla liked did...
"Bye, Mom!" Kayla and I both called from the doorway. All of Kayla's friends called her mom Mom, she was just so motherly to all of us... Especially to those like me whose real mother wasn't all that motherly. Kayla and I started walking down the street towards Amy's house, which was only about four blocks down the road.
"When you meet him, trust me, he's going to be wearing his Rox hat. His friends custom made it for him, it has his nickname, Peanut, on the side above the brim." She gushed, like this was what made him so amazing.
"Peanut? That's my nickname." I commented, really only half listening.
"Oh, yea, that's what your dad calls you... All his friends call him that 'cause he's allergic to peanuts."
"Sick irony, eh?" I laughed, thinking about how weird it must be being nicknamed after something that could kill you.
When we finally got to Amy's house, I had decided I did care what I looked like. Sure, Kayla liked Derek so I couldn't go for him, but he seemed like the type of guy that might have a few cute friends... Maybe I should have tried a bit harder to look a little better. I hadn't even bothered with makeup.
We knocked on the door and seconds later, Amy bounded up, wound as ever, to let us in.
"Hello!" She chirped, opening the door fully to let us in.
"Hey, Amy. Is Derek here yet?" Leave it to Kayla to skip right to the punch.
"Yep! Derek, Kayla's here! And one of my other friends, Lily!" Amy seemed way to chipper for the bounding heat outside.
"Oh, hey Kayla," A male voice called form the living room. "And... oh, hi, Lily." Derek said with a smile. He really was cute. Really cute.
My heart thumped as Derek looked me right in the eyes with that adorable smile on his face. He had chin length, wavy blonde hair half covered my the famed white Rox hat, accented with black designs and 'Peanut' over the straight, worn brim. His deep brown eyes held a hint of green surrounding the pupil, making his eyes mesmerizingly beautiful. High cheekbones supported his tanned face, and beautifully toned muscles peeked out from his deep blue T-shirt.
"Hey, you must be Derek," I said lamely. Stupid, stupid stupid! Why can't you say something smart, or funny? Make him laugh!
Amy, seemingly oblivious to my lame remark, cut in.
