Ten years; you've been cleverly hiding

You've been smiling, light has been guiding

You had forgotten me, successfully

You had started life again, happily

To this new beginning of yours

I send my greetings, my roars:

The cottages collapse, houses shake

Oh traveler of life, everything's fake

Fame, success, money and all

Nothing remains, everything falls

I've shaken you hard, I've shown you death

I'll make you mine, you'll count your breaths

Just remember these jerks, keep me in mind

You'll see me again, this movie shall rewind.

........................

A scream tries to escape, I clutch my mouth tightly

I had forgotten it all, started life brightly

I thought ten years were enough to forget you

But you've come back stronger, deadlier, anew

I shut my eyes , as I feel the roof coming down

I feel helpless, in the seas of fear I drown

Has the clock stopped ticking, is it the end?

I spend moments thinking about family and friends

Am I leaving without one last meeting?

Will the regrets remain? I feel my cheeks heating.

Flashbacks finish, ground's still vibrating hard

I sit there frozen, holding my university result card

Staring at my meaningless, shiny grades, I realize it again

Life is a canvas, a roller coaster, a strong chain.

...........................

And then somewhere near I hear this voice:

Hope is never lost, life never stops

(I remember my childhood, cute bunny hops)

The home lost today will be built again

(I'll have to stay sensible, keep my brain sane)

'Cause tomorrow there shall be a better sunrise

(If I stay courageous and act truly wise)

I stand up, ignoring your dark grave voice

This is my life, I'll make my choice

I won't let you shake my faith, my dreams

I'll work hard, no matter how hard it seems

Whether the roofs collapse, walls shake

I'll stay determined, this decision I make

To ensure a better future, to be strong

I'll be a wise girl, I'll never bear wrong.

Author's note: This is something strange. Even i have no idea how i came up with such a peculiar piece. The formation, stanza making and everything in here is really different from my typical way of writing. I hope you guys find this piece interesting.

This is about an earthquake that Pakistan experienced on 8th October, 2005 when i was just a nine years old. The destruction was massive- 80,000 deaths due to 7.8 magnitude. This year, on 26th October 2015, Pakistan got shaken by an 8.1 magnitude earthquake... making the ten year old fear in me, rise up again. I'm thankful to Allah for the safety, the life He has Blessed us all with. This year, the death toll has risen to 250 which marks a huge difference. I pray everyone, everywhere stays safe and blessed! Ameen.

Also, I'd like to explain that the lines in bold are from my favourite poem 'Home' from the collection SOULS written by akki321

I'd like you all to check out that wonderful piece and leave your feedback. Your visit will definitely light up the talented writer's profile. :))
