In The End, I Lost It All

Chapter 4: Communicating with one another

(Jake's POV)

It's been a couple days since I ran into that gorgeous woman named Avril. I'm in my studio working on some new solos when I hear my phone buzzing, and I turn the screen back on from its sleep mode to see Avril has sent me a text, it reads:

"Hey Jake, just thought I would check in on you and make sure everything is ok. Also was hoping you'd maybe come get a coffee with me at Starbucks and we could get to know more about each other?"

I smile at her text and reply back, excitedly:

"Hello, I'm doing just fine; thank you. And sure, I'd love to meet up with you, get some coffee, and find out more about you. When should I meet you; What day and time?

She responds quickly saying:

"Great, how about we meet up tomorrow morning around 10 a.m. or so?"

I send her a quick reply to let her know that's fine, and I smile wide, knowing I will get to see her again. I hear a knock on my door and open it to find Jinxx standing there, with a knowing smirk on his face. "It seems like someone is in a good mood..." he teases me lightheartedly. "Oh hush, Jinxx..." I push him playfully on the shoulder and he chuckles, coming inside slowly. We head back towards my in-home studio and begin working on solos together.

After a few hours, Jinxx looks up at me and clears his throat, signaling he's about to say something. I look up at him, and he immediately begins talking. "Jake, be honest with me. How do you feel about Avril?" I take in a deep breath and respond, "Jinxx, I don't know what it is about her, but she makes me feel so happy; happier than I've been in a very long time." He smiles, chuckling before replying... "Just don't rush into things, man; take it slow, get to know everything about her: favorite flowers, favorite genre of movie, favorite kind of food; those kind of things... what makes her smile, laugh, get angry, etc..."

I smile and pat his shoulder, replying, "Oh I plan to find out everything I can. I can't stop thinking of her, and I'd love nothing more than to have her in my life permanently..." He shows himself out and I hear his car revving up and pulling away. I look down to see Trixy and Ernie staring up at me with their big eyes and wagging their tails furiously at me, begging for attention. I smile and pull them in hugging them tight. "How would you two like to have a new mommy in the near future, hmm?" I ask them, knowing full well they cannot respond, but Trixy and Ernie both bark at me, as if to say, "Yes, we want a new mommy." I chuckle at their enthusiasm and rub their heads before heading out to the grocery store to get a few things, as I am running low on food.

After parking my car and heading inside Kroger ®, I grab a couple disinfecting wipes and clean my cart before grabbing it and heading down each aisle to get the healthy necessities needed and head to the checkout lane. After unloading everything onto the conveyor belt, paying, and loading the bags into my car, I drive home quickly, to see my kids all making a mad dash to the car to unload the groceries. Elissia unloads everything, putting them away quickly and starts making dinner which happens to be spaghetti; one of my favorite Italian dishes. After dinner is done the dishes have been cleaned and put away, Elissia sits next to me on the couch and says with her soft voice "Daddy, do you think you've found love again since Mom left?" I look over at her and smile pulling her in a hug. She lays her head on my shoulder, then I lay mine on top of hers and sigh before replying, "I hope so sweetheart; I hope I found someone who will love all of us with her whole heart and soul and stay here forever." She smiles up at me and kisses my forehead, before heading upstairs to bed.

I lay my head back against the couch and close my eyes for a few minutes when I hear my phone going off. I look down to see a new text from Avril again and smile at what she wrote:

Hey, hope everything is going ok, and I was thinking that maybe after out coffee break, I could come over and meet your kids, get to know them a little if that's ok with you?

I smile and reply, "Sure" hitting the send button and watching it pop up onto my phone. She sends me a smiling emoji as if to respond "Ok". I think to myself, I could really see myself with that gorgeous woman. She has a heart of gold, and is so nice and caring of others. That's the kind of woman I need in my life right about now. I look forward to seeing how things go between us further down the road.
