Chapter One
“Red will be amazing,” my mom told me as we walked into the studio for a meeting about the Red Tour.
“I hope the fans like it as much as the Speak Now Tour,” I said, voicing my insecurities.
“They will, they’ll love it,” my mom grinned.
“Hey, Taylor!” the receptionist, Jade, greeted us.
I grinned, “Hey, Jade.”
“They’re all in there, go right in,” Jade told us, pushing a strand of chestnut hair behind her ear.
“Thanks!” I said, checking my iPhone. No new messages.
I sighed, stuffing my iPhone back into my purse as we entered the meeting room.
“Hey, Taybear!” Grant Mickelson exclaimed as I shut the door behind my mother and me.
“Hey, Grant,” I rolled my eyes at the silly nickname that he refused to drop.
I took my place at the head of the table, checking my phone once more. No new messages. I groaned mentally, putting my phone into my bag before turning my attention to the matter at hand. The Red Tour.
“So, Ms. Swift,” someone named Dave began, “We think it might be beneficial for everyone if you brought someone along with you on tour.”
“That’s a great idea! I’d love to take someone along!” I exclaimed, grinning.
“Great. So we figured either Gary Lightbody or Ed Sheeran considering you did duets with both of them on the album. Unfortunately, Mr. Lightbody isn’t available because of his own tour and press,” Dave told me.
I frowned slightly, “And Ed?”
“Ed Sheeran is free,” Dave smiled, “And as long as you say yes he is willing to come on tour.”
“Yay!” I yelled, “Of course! I love Ed. He’s like my brother!”
“Great, I will notify Mr. Sheeran of your decision. See you tomorrow, Ms. Swift,” Dave said and I smiled, standing up and leaving.
As I left and headed over to Starbucks- my mom stayed back to discuss more technical details- I checked my phone. No new messages. I groaned, silently cursing my phone as if it was directly at fault for not giving me the messages I wanted.
I pushed the door open to Starbucks, the familiar scent of coffee surrounding me. I stood in line, impatiently staring at my phone. Suddenly it bleeped and I grinned. Finally.
Austin: hey tay
Taylor: AUSTIN! HOW COME YOU DIDN’T TEXT ME EARLIER!?!
Austin: sorry, taybear
Taylor: how was your date?
Austin: great. I think I really like jill
Taylor: awesome!!
Finally. I had waited all day for Austin to text me about his date last night will a Jillian Keenan. Jill for short. From the picture he sent me she looked pretty. Chocolate brown eyes, chestnut brown hair, skinny. Someone Austin would like.
I slipped my iPhone into my pocket, stepping up to place my order. A vanilla latte.
“Are… are you… Taylor… Taylor Swift?” the cashier suddenly asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I smiled, “Yes, yes I am.”
“OMG, I can’t believe this!” the girl’s mouth dropped open and she looked shocked and happy at the same time. “It’s T-t-t-taylor S-s-s-swift.”
“In the flesh,” I said, shrugging and looking at her nametag, “Maia.”
“OMG. I’m sorry, this is probably really weird,” Maia instantly composed herself; finishing up my order.
“When is your shift over?” I asked as another girl handed me my drink.
“Five minutes,” she told me as I moved out of the way to let another customer place their order.
“I’ll be here. Come over and talk if you want to,” I told her, turning and walking over to a table by the window.
I sat down in a chair and began people watching. I loved people watching. It gave me so many new outfit ideas. I slipped my sunglasses over my eyes to prevent from squinting in the bright LA sun. I thought about the Red Tour. It was going to be amazing. I hoped the fans loved it. I looked at my phone. December 10, 2012. Red had been out for a few months and we were really behind on planning for the Red Tour. The first date was scheduled for March 13. I guess we had most things down, just needed to start rehearsing and getting Ed in on it.
“Happy early Birthday!” Maia yelled suddenly, setting a red velvet cupcake in front of me.
“Aw, thanks!” I grinned, not believing it.
“No problem,” Maia smiled and then paused slightly. “Wow. Sorry. I can’t believe this. I can’t believe I’m talking to Taylor. Swift.”
I laughed lightly, “Aw, I love you.”
“You should know, we Swifties have your back,” she told me and I grinned.
“Thanks,” I said, smiling.
“I know you’re getting a lot of hate for dating Harry,” she paused, rolling her eyes, “but we all know you’re amazing.”
“That means a lot, thank you,” I smiled, briefly thinking of the millions of death threats on Twitter and Instagram and Facebook I got every day. I frowned slightly, quickly shaking it off.
“Can you… could you sign this?” she asked suddenly, holding out the Red CD.
“Sure!” I exclaimed, digging in my purse for a sharpie and signing it. “Are you going to a concert?”
“Yes!” she grinned, “Though I’m like way in the back but oh well, just glad I can go right?”
I smiled, “Yes, well, can’t wait to see you there!”
“I’m so excited you have no idea,” she told me and I grinned.
“Thanks, well, I gotta get going. Do you have a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram?” I asked her, standing up.
“Um, yeah. It’s um, well, um, I have more than one,” she finally said, blushing.
“Okay?” I asked, “What are they?”
“Well, one is my personal, @msowers13 and the other is um… it’s um,” she looked down, obviously embarrassed. “@proudswift. At least on Instagram. On Twitter it’s @msowers13 and @maiaswiftie.”
“Aw, that’s adorable! I love you!” I exclaimed, hugging her. “Now, I really gotta go, ciao!”
I walked out of Starbucks, grinning. I pulled out my iPhone and went to Instagram, ignoring the thousands of likes I had gotten on a picture I posted weeks ago. I went to search and followed @msowers13 and @proudswift. The pages were amazing! I looked around on Instagram for a while, marveling at the entire Swiftie community fans built up for me. It was absolutely amazing. I laughed at memes, loved the captions of pictures, and was tempted to follow some people. I resisted, remembering my promise to treat all of them the same. I knew I was breaking that by following Maia but she was sweet. And deserved a special treat because she was so happy even just going to my concert. I went over to the car, waiting patiently for my mother.
