I gasp "Seriously? Why?"

Shrugging she answers "I don't know"

It was rare for someone to reject their mate, since we were little we were told our mate is our happiness.

Why would anyone give away their happiness?

The rest of lunch is just pointless chatter.

Ian's POV

I give Gloria one last kiss then start walking back to school. Just as I reach the front door the bells rings, signaling the end of the school day.

I change directions and start walking towards my locker.

There, I start taking my bag out.

There's a tap on my shoulder and I turn around to see Julia.

"What you do is disgusting" is the first thing she says.

"It's just sêx" I shrug.

"You have a mate" Julia says stomping her foot.

"I haven't met her" I reply.

"That's not an excuse, you know what? Whatever. Do what you want I don't even care anymore" and with that she stomps away.

I turn back to my locker and start grabbing some books to put in my bag when I hear Cameron's voice.

"Where is Julia? She was supposed to wait here for me"

"She was here but she had an argument with herself then left" I shrug, slamming my locker shut.

"She argued with herself? I find that hard to believe. Do you know my mate?" Cameron asks with a raised eyebrow.

I sigh "You know how she gets about the mate thing."

"Yeah, she does get heated over it"

"Yeah, I'm pretty she is starting to hate me" I say with a chuckle.

Cameron shakes his head "She could never hate you. She fights with you over the mate thing because she cares for you"

"Well she should stop. I'm just enjoying my life before I have to settle down" I say, what I always say.

"How do you think your mate will feel?" Cameron asks.

"No, I'm not having this conversation with you too. If you don't like it keep it to your damn self. But just for the record she won't know" I say, annoyed.

Cameron shakes his head "So you will lie? Tell her you're a virgin?"

"It won't be a lie, I will just not come up to the conversation. Why would I put my mate through that?" I say.

"Why are you putting her through that  right now then?"

"Because I don't know her. I have no emotional connection towards her. I know I will when I meet her but until then..." I trail off.

"Just think things through Ian" Cameron says, fist bumping me he adds "I'm going to find Julia"

Then he's gone.

I start walking towards my car, sadly I needed to go home. I was planning on staying in my room until I left to go out tonight.

I wasn't in the mood, Julia and Cameron lectured me enough already I didn't have time for my parents to do it again.

As soon as I reach my pack I see my 11 year old sister Anna.

"Hey Ian" She greets.

"Hi" I say robotically.
