                                                                                        KYLIE POV

I sigh, get up from my seat, and head towards the door. I walk out of the classroom and start to travel down the hall. I hear Luke's footsteps catching up behind me, and I roll my eyes.

Luke looks at me and grabs my arm, causing me to stop. "What do you want now?" I huff."I want to say......... imsorryforbeingaperv ....." Luke rushes out."What?" I give him a confused look."I'm...Sorry." He says.I raise my eyebrows at him. "Did you just apologize?"Luke nods his head and sighs. "I did. But only because you were mad, and if you're mad when we reach the principals, it isn't going to go well for us." He starts to walk away but then turns around. "Well, at least for me." He smirks.I roll my eyes at him. Of course, Luke has some selfish motive for apologizing. He wouldn't have apologized if there wasn't. "You're an arrogant jerk," I say, catching up to him.He smirks and continues walking. I do the same, deciding to try to block out his presence. If I can be in a calm mood when I'm at the principal's, maybe I can try to negotiate whatever punishment I get.We reach the principal's office, and we walk in. "Hello Kylie, Luke." Principal Walker greets."Hey, Mr.Walker." Luke and I say in unison. We glare at each other before taking a seat in the two chairs set in front of the principal's desk."So, you two were sent here because of fighting...again." Mr.Walker states. I like Mr.Walker, but I hate when people state the obvious. I think we know why we were sent to his office. We were both there, weren't we?"Yes, sir," I say, attempting to be polite. "Look, you two have been fighting for years. I have let you two get away with it time after time because of your athletic obligations and abilities. This rivalry is ridiculous. I told you two the last time, if you fight again, there will be consequences." Principal Walker leans back in his chair."What makes this time different than the other times you let it slip? We've had a lot worse fights. Three years ago, I put a paint bomb in her locker. She was green for a week. She looked like the wicked witch of the west. This time, I merely got slapped for saying something I shouldn't have." Luke speaks, clearly trying to talk his way out of this."This quarrel has been going on long enough." Mr.Walker maintains.Luke sits back a little in his chair, giving up. Taking that as my cue, I speak up. "Mr. Walker, Luke has a point. We have done a lot worse to each other. It was just a minor slap.""I don't want to hear any more excuses. You have a choice. You can get along, or your positions as cheer captain and star quarterback are gone. On top of this, you have to go to at least one couples counseling. Spending time together outside of school wouldn't hurt either. " Mr.Walker says."Mr. Walker, we would have to be a couple to need couples counseling," I say."Then think of it more as a...friendship counseling." I could see the amusement in Mr. Walker's eyes. "Wouldn't there have to be a friendship?" Luke challenges."This is non-negotiable. If you don't do it, you don't play sports. That's final." Mr.Walker says sternly.I nod and get up to leave, Luke trailing behind me. Out of the billions of people on this planet, why did I have to be forced to spend time with Luke?Once we exit the principal's office and out of earshot, I let out a loud, exasperated sigh. "What's wrong with you, princess?" Luke asks.I look at him with a blank expression. "What do you think is fucking wrong with me?""Okay, two things. One, do you kiss your mother with that mouth? And two, I don't see why you're upset. You get to spend time with me. Who doesn't want this?" Luke gestures to himself and smirks."Me." I raise my hand. "I don't want that." I gesture to Luke.Luke's smirk falls, and he narrows his eyes at me. "You know what?""What?" I ask. Now I'm the one with the smirk. "You are a jerk face." Luke sticks his tongue out at me.I look at him disbelievingly. "What, are you five?"Luke walks away without another word and heads to our next class. He is so childish.-----------------------------"Okay, ladies, let's do a pyramid. We need to practice without last year's seniors." I finalize. The girls groan and get into formation to do a pyramid. "Oh, come on! You girls are cheerleaders! Have a more positive attitude, especially at practice!" The girls plastered on fake smiles and straightened up. The girls formed the two rows. I get behind them, ready to be placed on the top. Before I could be hoisted up, a football came sailing toward me. I caught the football with ease and glared at the person who threw it. Luke Parker."Luke!" I yell out to him. Luke shrugs and starts to run over to retrieve the ball. Luke makes it off the football field and onto the smaller field cheerleaders use for practice. "Nice catch?" Luke's statement sounds like a question."Is that a statement or a question?" I ask.He shrugs again. "How did you catch it so easily?""My brother is Nate Jacobs. You don't think I ever played football with him?" I state the obvious."Well, can I have the ball back now?" Luke holds his hand out for the football.I smirk evilly and look out to the field. I spot Andrew Jones, Luke's best friend, and yell out to him."Hey, Andrew! Go long!"Andrew grants me a confused look, but I throw the football, and he catches on. He catches the football and falls face-first into the ground. Andrew gets up and puts two thumbs up, signaling he's okay.I roll my eyes at his stupidity. "Nice throw," Luke says. I smile triumphantly at him, but the smile doesn't last long because he adds a mechanistic comment. "For a girl." Luke runs back onto the field, and they continue their practice. "Captain! We're getting tired, you know!" Jessica yells at me from the second row of the pyramid."Right, sorry," I mumble. I get back in position, and the boys on the team launch me onto the top. I stand straight and put my arms up. "Look out!" One of the boys from the football team shouts from afar.I look behind me and see a football traveling toward the second row. It hits one of the girls, and she loses her grip on me, but she manages to steady herself. I, on the other hand, start to fall toward the ground."Kylie!" I hear people shout.I brace myself to hit the ground, but instead, someone catches me. The person and I fall, and they land on top of me.My eyes widen when I see my savior. "You caught me?""Yes," Luke smirks.I groan. "Well, next time, catch me more gracefully. You tackled me.""Hey, I saved your ass from snapping your neck." He says playfully."Could you get off me, now? You weigh a friggin ton." I complain.Luke gets up ."You're welcome, princess." He says. I stand up but yelp in pain and start to fall. Luke wraps his arm around my waist, bracing me. "What's wrong, now?""I hurt my ankle," I admit. Luke sighs and picks me bridal style. What is he doing? I look at him aghast, and he glances at me. " I'm bringing you to the nurse." He says, answering my unasked question.Luke carries me off the field and into the school. Thank god our practices are after school. The hallways are virtually empty.I scan the area to make sure no one is around us. I have a feeling Luke won't answer my question if people are nearby. "Why are you helping me? First, you save me, and now you're carrying me to the nurse. I thought you hated me.""Look, we may fight, but I don't want to see you dead." He replies, peering down at me.I take in what Luke said, realizing he didn't give me a complete answer. "You only answered half of my question.""What?""Well, you explained why you saved me, not why you're helping me now," I say."Because I want to." Our eyes lock, and I see something flash in his eyes. "You scared the living hell out of me when you fell from the pyramid. I don't know why, but you did. I guess I don't hate you as much as I say I do." For a second, Luke stops walking, glancing down at my lips. I clear my throat, and Luke looks away, continuing to walk to the nurse. Well, that was new.
