I sighed as I read Mary's message.
Meet me at my office at 9 am.I want to discuss something very important with you
I have no clue about what she wants from me now. Anyway, it has to be something related to my dear stepbrother, Logan.
I enter the elevator car and press the button for 5th floor, it reminds me of the time when my dad was alive and I used to visit his office. After dad died, I was left alone with Mary, she ultimately took over the Shield's Industries even though my stepmother is pretty cruel, she's a good business woman but I refuse to work with her due to my past experiences with her cruel personality.
I totally hate her bossy attitude towards me. Maybe I should just slit her throat. I thought jubilantly.
My heart starts pounding. I have an intuition that there's something fishy going on. Mary has been acting strange lately, she's being nice and sweet to me which is unusual.
As soon as I knock at the door, Mary shouts "Come in," and I enter her pure white office with a golden chandelier, shining bright. She smiles and asks me to take a seat.
"Good morning,Emerald. You're on time," she said in a sweet voice.

"Yeah,I am.You said you wanted to dicuss something important."
"Oh my dear,Emerald. You are curious, aren't you? Sure,we'll be discussing that but before that,I have a question for you."
"Ask away." I said
"How's your job going on? I mean at 'the local newspaper'?" She purposely stressed her words on 'the local newspaper' as she thinks that working there is something which is below her standards.
"It's going pretty well." I lied, even though I hold a good position in my office,my dream job is to actually write for 'The New York Times.'
I write the psychology and suggestion section in the newspaper, it's fun as well as stressing but Mary, she doesn't understand the value of hard work and determination, since my darling dad left everything in her hands.
"Oh,that's great. Anyway,as you know, our company is planning to invest in the 'Green Project' but for that we need a partner, who can invest his money in the project with us and you know,this project is very important to Shield Industries," She hesitated for a moment and continued "The great news is that, The Valdez Cooperation is ready to partner with us but only on one condition,"
My eyes widened as soon as I heard the word Valdez, Carter Valdez is the one who's responsible for my dad's death. He's the one who ruined my life
