Somewhere between laughter and irritation, between knowing when to push and when to soften, they had built a love that felt less like a promise and more like home.

The first sign that something was wrong was Seokjin’s silence.
Not the ordinary kind. Seokjin could be quiet when he was tired, when he was scrolling through his phone, when he was concentrating on something that had apparently become a matter of national importance despite being nothing more than a ridiculous variety show playing on the television. This was different. He had been sitting at the kitchen island for almost a full minute with a fork suspended over his plate, chewing slowly, thoughtfully, as though he had just been handed evidence in a criminal investigation and was deciding whether it was worth reporting.
Jungkook noticed because, unfortunately, he knew that face.
He had spent enough years around Kim Seokjin to recognize the exact moment a thought became a complaint.
"What?"
Seokjin looked up. "Nothing."
"Hyung."
"I said nothing."
"You made the face."
"What face?"
"That face."
Seokjin’s eyebrows lifted with exaggerated innocence. "I have many faces, Jungkook. You're going to have to be more specific."
"The one where you're about to criticize something."
"I don't criticize."
Jungkook gave him a flat look.
Seokjin returned it with equal dignity for approximately two seconds before his mouth twitched. "Fine. I observe."
"You're chewing my food like you're conducting a quality inspection."
"Because I am conducting a quality inspection."
Jungkook groaned and leaned back against the counter. "Just say it."
Seokjin took another bite.
Chewed.
Considered.
Then he put the fork down.
"It's salty."
There it was.
Jungkook stared at him. "Seriously?"
"A little."
"It's not."
"It is."
"It's soy sauce."
"Yes. Soy sauce contains salt."
"I know that."
"Then why did you put so much in?"
"I didn't put that much."
Seokjin reached across the table, picked up the small bowl of leftover sauce and tilted it toward him with the grave expression of a man presenting undeniable evidence before a jury. "You used almost all of this."
"I was making enough for two people."
"You were making enough for two people, not a small army."
"It's not even that salty."
