-Chapter Seven-

With every step forward my mind pounds with questions.

What will it be like facing Jayden in the Blind Date show today?

Step.

So.. the twins are coming to my house after to help me pack?

Step.

What will mum think of them?

Step.

Does Noah.. hate me? (Either way he definitely doesn't like me.)

Step.

What am I supposed to do about Eric?

Step.

I come face to face with my house door and reluctantly turn the handle. After such a tiring day I'm certainly not prepared to deal with my mum's antics about tonight. All I want to do is curl up in my blanket, turn on Netflix and drown in Vampire Diaries. I'm too tired to paint. I'm too tired to do anything that requires moving and even talking.

"Mikayla darling! Is that you?" My mother's voice echoes.

"Well naah mum, who else could it be?"

"Calm your tongue Miss Sarcasm and take a look at what I bought you for the 7'oclock show!" The pride in her voice sends shivers down my spine. Oh please no... not another one of the devil's bidding.

I sigh and enter the living room. But what she holds out, like a trophy in her bare arms makes me sway to the side in surprise. It astounds me that it isn't one of her demonic missions, well I'd like to hope so anyway.

A beautiful emerald coloured, floor length dress lay quaint, as she sets it down neatly on the couch. The material; a shimmery kind, the type you see in old Victorian movies- has an elegant, sophisticated ring to it. The cuffs are doused in stunning gold sequins which also border the neckline.

I can't help but let an audible gasp leave my lips as I perlustrate (scrutinise/stare at) the compelling garment.

"I knew you would love it! Besides, it'll go well with your red hair. Oh and I had this blind fold made for you too." My mum hands me over a delicate, matching pure green piece, decorated with the same gold sequins embroidered into the dress.

"It is indeed beautiful mum! My first question is why I need a blind fold if we already know how our partners for the rest of the show look like." I ask curiosity, filling my voice.

"Good question, which you need to know the answer to. Well it is a 'show tradition' that the girl walk into her seat, places her blindfold on and awaits the boys to take their respective seats opposite their partner."

"Okay... that isn't pointless at all." I note.

"Didn't I tell you to tone down your tongue Miss Sarcasm?" My mum scolds.

"Sorry mum, you just make it so hard. You should consider stopping calling me that as well." I grin. "But seriously. thank you for the dress. How expensive was it?"

"Oh Mikayla, you know that I can afford it. We're more than well-off. Seems like that good for nothing basta- basket ball player" she quickly amends, as my eyes widen in amusement, "was sort of good for something after all."

"I guess so. But surely mum, didn't you ever feel like a prostitute? You know, having been his secretary and him paying you extra money?" I giggle and we both laugh while she swats my arm.

"Shut it, you!"

If anyone else heard this conversation they'd think I was being really offensive, but in truth it's just an inside joke between my mother and I. After her douche of an ex-boyfriend, Ian Barks, betrayed her after their 5 year relationship, my mum was a wreck. But in the end, I made a point that at least we had more than enough money due to her heavy salary, being Ian's secretary/prime girlfriend. The point is, after having our hearts' broken, (yes ours, when Ian cheated, he broke both mine and my mum's trust. I really thought he'd become my stand-in father) at least we weren't left with nothing. We had and still have a shit load of money in mum's bank account and well, we'll survive.
