The Norf Clan
by @EdPing
Grown-ups keep secrets – all sorts of stuff
Which they only tell you when you’re old enough
And now you’re getting bigger, it’s about time you knew
About a secret that they have been keeping from you!
There’s a little family who lives under each bed
Some who are blue and some that are red
It goes without saying that they’re all very small
(They live under your bed after all!)
It’s the Norf Clan I’ll tell you about today
They live under a bed – not far away
They camp out in a mattress between the springs
Collecting toys and buttons and interesting things.
There’s Ashton and Hindley who like to play tricks
Winston and Beeston, one’s five and one’s six
Pem and Skem, one’s fat and one’s thin
And who can forget the brilliant Bryn?
Now it’s not uncommon for things to go missing
Like odd-socks and marbles and pieces of string
But here’s some news that might give you a jolt
You aren’t that careless – it’s not always your fault!
It’s not monsters or ghosts who lived under your bed
Just the Clan up to mischief as always instead
You can guarantee that the Clan are to blame
When mum gets annoyed and starts shouting your name
They aren’t pixies or elves and dwarves aren’t that small
Just the littlest people in the world after all.
The boy whose room and bed the Clan shared
Was kind and polite – not that they cared
They were much too busy at play with his stuff
Knocking things over with games that were rough
They’d roll out his cars and build with his bricks
(especially the ones who were aged five and six)
When the boy was at school they would play all the day
But never once did they put things away
At first the boy had been quite amused
Though he had to admit he was rather confused
For he’d tidied his room, then out he’d gone
And returned thinking it had been hit by a bomb!
The floor was covered with his Lego bricks
Board games and books and cool magic tricks
Someone had routed in one of his jars
But worst of all someone had played with his cars!
“I don’t understand” he said in distress
looking around at the terrible mess
But not being one to grumble or shout
