I hate being a princess.

I mean, not in the ruling-over-the-world sense.

I liked that part.

The sense that since my twenty-first birthday was coming up, I would have to be married off to a prince from another kingdom.

I don't get to choose.

Just a blind marriage.

I've never fallen in love with anyone, and I was never planning to. Besides, why would I force myself to love someone spoiled and rich?

That was wrong in my eyes.

After my family had settled in their rooms and some guards had moved around, I traveled to my secret underground lab, the one hidden away from my parents. It was located near the outskirts of the kingdom, hopefully where no one would be.

If my parents found out I loved science and engineering, they would probably lock me in my room until my wedding.

Putting on my lab coat and goggles, I got to work.

Hours and hours went by as I connected circuits, fused metal, and coded different pieces of my invention.

I carefully looked at the result, being pleased with how it turned out.

When I finally checked the clock, it read 4:52 AM.

Please say my parents didn't notice I was gone...

I pressed a button to compact my invention while I stuffed it into my bag, standing up and walking out the door.

The sun was slowly starting to rise, and small bits of light peeked out from behind the trees. Leaves fell from every direction, and they released a loud crunch when I stepped on them.

I held my dark hooded outfit closer, shielding me from the cold. I stared at the ground for a while, until I bumped into something- or someone, making me fall to the ground.

"Sorry..." The voice said. I looked up at them, seeing a tall man, probably about my age, looking sheepishly. He held his hand out, offering to help me stand. I quickly rose, ignoring him.

"Whatever. I should have been looking where I was going."

"No, it's fine. That was on me... uhh-"

"Golf Ball."

"Nice to meet you, Golf Ball. I'm Tennis Ball."

He didn't point out how he saw the princess, wandering around town in disguise as far away from the castle as possible.

That's weird... Maybe he just moved here?

I must admit though, I didn't mind not having the attention of being royalty.

"Are you new around here? I've never heard that name before." I asked him.

"Yeah, I just moved here a few days ago. My parents wanted us to have a fresh start. Which was pretty uncalled for, if I say so myself. What about you?"

"I've been here for a few years. It sucks here."

"Oh. Wanna talk about it? I don't have many other friends here. I also don't have any plans... for the next few months."

"I would but I have to go home. Maybe another time."

I started to walk away, worried about how my family would react to me being gone. I'm probably dead...

"Well, hopes to seeing you again, Golf Ball!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Where were you, Golf Ball? You haven't been in your room since 11:47, and it's 5:30!" My mom exclaimed the moment I walked through the palace doors.
"I was just walking around the village." I passed my parents, planning to walk back up to my room.
"No way, you aren't hiding away again. You will stay down here with us and explain exactly why you were out so late. Then, maybe we will let you go." My dad stated, not leaving room for arguments.
Great... So much for not getting caught...
"I was shopping for supplies to practice cooking. Now will you just let me go?"
My parents glanced at each other, silently asking if they believed me. Eventually, they let go of me and I ran up to my room.
After slamming the door behind me and sneaking into my closet, I finally opened my bag. I pushed the small button, and the invention unfolded.
It was glasses that changed colors of humans based on their current emotions. For example, yellow was happy, dark blue was sad, red was angry, and so on.
I guess I can test this out later. Hopefully it'll be helpful...
I took off my usual prescription glasses, replacing them with the more creative version. I could still see normally, as if there was no difference between the two.
Now to test them on someone... but who?
