Waking up was always the hardest part of the day for you. You never saw a point in it since the days just repeated themselves over and over again. You felt like it was a never ending cycle. Dark thoughts started to plague your mind but you brushed them off trying to trick yourself into happiness.

"Here we go again....another day of boredom and uselessness." You griped to yourself as you made your way around your apartment getting ready to head to work. You worked at a coffee shop that was run by an old man who was very particular in who he hires since the shop used to belong to his late wife. Since he took over after her passing a while ago, he trusts you a lot in running the shop since you were his wife's favorite employee. Your work was always diligent and careful. Making the customers laugh was your specialty and helping other employees out as well. You'd been working there for 6 years anyways so you knew your way around so very well.

You finished getting ready as you wore long pants and a compression long sleeve shirt. Hiding the self harm scars became more and more difficult during the summer but you always managed. You looked down at them as the newest ones were still spotted with dry blood and red around the edges and puffed up. You quickly rolled your sleeves down before heading out the door to your morning shift.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey y/n! Nice to see you, young man! Do you mind giving this old man some help in reaching the top shelf for the extra supplies? I can't move like I used to." Harold, the old shop owner asked you as soon as you walked in the door. You plastered on one of your charming smiles and gladly went to his aid. His appearance was an old white haired man with a slightly curved back from working the farms when he was younger.

"Of course, Mr. Smith. You don't need to be doing the restock. I can do it myself. You go sit and I will make some tea for you." You told him as you shooed him away from being behind the counter.

"I can see why my wife liked you so much. You truly are one of the good ones from this generation. I swear the rest of the other young ones don't have the drive like you do. I try to give them chance after chance but they never understand how to work nowadays. Well, I am just glad I have you, young man. Whoever you marry will be a lucky person." He said as you set his freshly made cup of tea where he sat. The coffee wasn't huge but also wasn't too small either. It could hold five tables for four and 6 tables of two around the place.

"I completely agree with you, Mr. Smith. I am just so glad your belated wife took a chance in me all those years ago. Kids these days don't understand how much working in your favorite place can actually be fun. I'm sure you will find some others who value this place just like I do too. Also, please stop talking about marriage. I most definitely won't be getting married nonetheless anytime soon." You replied as you chuckled. Mr. Smith took a sip of tea before responding. "I know, sunny but you have to some time in your life. Whether it's a girl or guy or whatever you young ones want. You will find them one day and treasure them like I did with my wife." He replied with a wink to you at the end.

The clock showed 9 am which is when the shop opens so you go ahead and flip the sign and unlock the door as you see the streets start to fill with cars running to and fro. Mr. Smith still sat at the table drinking his tea and now reading the newspaper he brought with him from his house as usual. Customers began to pile in the shop as you began taking orders and keeping track of making the drinks. Most mornings Mr. Smith worked just you since you weren't new to the morning rushes as the other employees. He looked over from his seat every now and gave a light smile before getting back to his newspaper. Just then a huge group of more guys and a few girls walked in. Thank goodness it was already past rush hour and was 12. You went up to the counter after making the last drink for the other customer and began taking orders from the group.
