Chapter 7: Finally

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

John's POV

I thought Sherlock would be having nightmares about these things. The black cabs. At best, I thought it would refuse to get into one. The worst situation would be him publicly, and very loudly, start listing reasons why black cabs shouldn't be used. Then get beaten up by a taxi driver.

Instead, he flagged a cab down and climbed gracefully into it.
"Coming John?" he questioned gleefully at my shocked face.

I guess he isn't one for flashbacks and refusal to be defeated of the things he fears.

So I climbed not-so-gracefully into the cab and sat down not in my usual place (opposite Sherlock), but next to him. Sherlock grabbed my hand and smiled shyly at me.

"Where to mate?" the taxi driver asked.

"221b Baker Street please." I called, and then Sherlock nudged me.

"That's my line!" he whined, pushing against me. "I always say that!"

"Yeah, well, a lot has changed Sherlock." I replied back, almost bitterly. To show I was only joking, I also gave Sherlock a playful nudge.

However, the atmosphere became tense within the cab and Sherlock gripped my hand tighter.

"About those changes. Well, we need to talk when we get home. I'm worried John." He looked plaintively at me, anxiety riddling his face.

I knew what he was talking about, but I decided to play dumb.

"Worried about me? Last time I checked, you was the one in the car crash." I laughed nervously and my voice cracked.

"Johhhhnnnn." Sherlock drew my name out and the pain was clear in his voice.

"Ok Sherlock. Ok."

So we arrived at 221B and instead of being a joyous occasion, it was rather a solemn one. Sherlock was watching me closely, as if I could break like china at any given minute.

I looked back onto the road. Right there, just there, is where Sherlock nearly lost his life. In there, in that flat up there, is where nearly lost my mind.

Blinking the bloody useless tears out if my eyes, I turned to Sherlock and pretended to be irritated.

"For flip sake Sherlock, stop watching me! I'm FINE!" I shouted at him, attracting some strange stares from passerbys. I stepped closer towards him, into his 'personal bubble of space' so to speak.

Reaching out for his hand which was hidden in the depths of his coat, I whispered shyly.

"I have you."

"Finally you admit it John!" Sherlock exclaimed. "You will always have me, always! You were too scared to admit it in case I left. But, John," He stepped into me so our chests were touching. "You are the biggest case I ever have had. You should know by now I never abandon a good case."

His face tilted, his lips perilously close to mine.

"You of all people." I tilted my face and closed my eyes, ready to receive his lips. Instead, I got the lukewarm breeze wafting against my face, and no lips against mine. When I opened them again, I found that Sherlock had stepped away to tease me, and was now leaning against the door of 221B Baker Street. He grinned cheekily.

"Into 221B we go then John!"

Finally.

A/N

So I thought of doing an alternative ending where at when Sherlock says that John is always with him, he says instead that he is always in Johns heart, and then John wakes up to find it was a dream.

But as well as being cruel, the whole dream thing is a bit overused and I want this story to continue! I have a lot of surprises coming up!

Ciao for now and love y'all!
