Chapter 1: He Said I've Died Before
They said my death was already written in the stars.
I never believed them.
Stars were beautiful, distant things. They couldn't decide who lived or died. They couldn't control my future.
At least, that's what I thought.
The night everything changed started like any other.
School had ended late. The streets were nearly empty as I walked home beneath a sky crowded with stars. A cold wind tugged at my jacket, carrying the scent of rain.
I glanced up.
For a moment, one star seemed brighter than the others.
Then it vanished.
A strange feeling settled in my chest.
Not fear.
Recognition.
As if something I had forgotten was trying to remember me.
I shook it off and kept walking.
That was when I saw him.
A boy stood beneath the broken streetlight at the end of the road.
Completely still.
Waiting.
The light above him flickered weakly before dying altogether.
Darkness swallowed the street.
Yet somehow I could still see him.
His eyes.
Silver.
Not gray.
Not blue.
Silver.
My pulse quickened.
I had never seen him before.
So why did he feel familiar?
The boy stepped forward.
"You took longer than usual."
I frowned.
"Excuse me?"
His expression tightened.
Like he had expected a different answer.
Like he had heard this conversation before.
Many times.
"Do I know you?" I asked.
For a second, something flashed across his face.
Sadness.
Then he looked away.
"No," he said quietly. "Not in this timeline."
I laughed nervously.
"Okay, that's weird."
I started walking again.
He grabbed my wrist.
The instant his skin touched mine, a violent image exploded inside my head.
Blood.
Broken glass.
A scream.
My scream.
I ripped my hand away and stumbled backward.
"What was that?"
The boy looked horrified.
