"I know life and fate are scary, but I wanna be legendary."
Sirius wasn't sure why the entire student body had been told to assemble in the Great Hall of their school - the Hogwarts Institute of Arts and Sciences - at 7 in the morning. And he was pretty sure his friends hadn't the foggiest of what the fuzz was all about either. Still, James Fleamont Potter - being the perfect prefect that he was - had woken all of them up at 6 and ushered them into the hall, ignoring all of Sirius' protests and dodging every slur that his best friend threw him. Sirius was convinced that James deserved every single one of those. After all, he had more important things to do, like getting his beauty sleep.
Sirius turned to look at his other two mates. Peter was trying his best not to doze off, but was failing terribly. Sirius looked at the sod with empathy, seeing that he felt just as sluggish. He didn't even have the time to shower, he just lazily threw on his uniform and had to be practically dragged by his best friend to here, one of the oldest constructed bits of the campus. With it's beautifully leaded windows and the enchanting transparent ceiling, the hall looked rather victorian.
Sirius could only imagine what his hair must've been looking like. He consciously reached out a hand over his head to smoothen his seemingly wild curls. Black watched as the smaller boy leaned onto Remus' shoulder for support, which resulted in the latter shaking him awake after every 10 seconds or so.
Well, and speaking of Remus, Sirius never knew how the boy did it. He didn't look dozy at all - unlike himself and Pete - he didn't even look bored. He looked interested, to say the least. Almost excited. Remus' eyes glinted as he attempted to absorb everything in his surroundings, closely observing as other students began filling up the halls.
Sirius groaned, "Ugh, Moony, I can't believe this, why do you not look like a half-zombie akin to the rest of us, and why do you look almost..." he paused for a second, making every effort to read his best friend's expressions, trying to take him all in, "happy to be here at this ungodly hour? I can't believe you" he repeated, "this is ridiculous."
Remus shrugged, "I couldn't sleep anyway Black, it's better to be here than on the bed with my eyes wide open listening to you blokes snore all the way through. And 7 in the morning isn't even that early, you're just being a defiant brat."
Sirius' let out a sound that clearly indicated that he found Remus' words just as ridiculous as his actions. How exactly was he being a defiant brat anyway?
Finally Peter spoke up, "Moony! I do not snore at all, do I? I'm tired of you including me into James and Sirius' antics when I've done nothing wrong" he said, clutching his chest dramatically.
"Quit being so dramatic Petey-boy" Sirius teased.
"Talk about dramatic," Remus smirked.
Just then James came up to the pack grinning, possibly done with his prefect duties for the moment. "Alright lads?" he spoke up. "Professor McGonagall will be here any second now."
"Minerva?" Sirius attempted.
James was about to speak again but was interrupted as their headmistress, Minerva McGonagall, stepped into the hall and began marching towards the podium. People stopped murmuring, and the sound of the woman's heels - as she made her way towards the stage - could be discernibly heard. She was carrying a piece of parchment in her hand and Sirius figured there'd be some sort of announcement. Possibly stricter norms, he guessed, as the number of pranks being carried out in the campus had been rapidly increasing.
She cleared her throat, then began speaking, "Dear students, I'm sure you are all wondering why you have been summoned in the hall this early in the morning."
"Very much indeed," Sirius snorted, more to himself than to anyone else.
"I'd like to inform you all that the reason is rather pleasant. You see, the headmaster of the George Heriot's School, Edinburgh, Mr. Douglas McGregor - who also happens to be a very close friend of mine - has sent an exciting invite our way."
Pleased that she had everyone's attention drawn towards her, she looked at the crowd through her glasses, and continued "Their school has organised the Rock&Roll Music Festival and he's eagerly awaiting participation from our school."
Woah, Sirius thought. Woah, woah, woah. His mind went racing with a gazillion different questions. A fest? A music fest? This was it. This was his one chance. Hell, the word music alone had the power enough to make his brain go swimming with pleasure, the kind of pleasure that was unmatched by anything else. To be in a band had been his forever dream. All his mates have known since always. After the words "music festival" escaped their headmistress' mouth, there was only one thing Sirius Black knew, he had to be there on the stage, and he had to take over this fest.
"We need you all to continue the Hogwarts legacy and participate with full zeal and enthusiasm. However, there's going to be intense competition, as different schools from all corners of the United Kingdom will be sending their representatives. In order not to make a fool of ourselves, our faculty has been having a series of discussions regarding the same since a few days. After much deliberation and consultation, it has been decided that only 3 bands will be sent from our school's side. I fear we do not have much time on our hands now; therefore the auditions will be taking place exactly two weeks from now. You are free to perform any song as per your wish, just see to it that it doesn't revolve around vulgarity, nor eroticism. Buckle up girls and boys, we're in for a ride."
Auditions eh? He thought about all the songs that they could play for the auditions. His mind skimmed past multiple Bowie, Arctic Monkeys, Queen, and T. Rex records as he struggled to choose one. Screw auditions, he would think about them later. They couldn't possibly stop him from winning the world over. His band was going to be one of the 3 chosen ones. That he was sure was. That he could bet his life on.
"I shall make it very clear that we do not have slots, nor time to waste, for apathetic students who are not ready to put their heart and soul into the preparations. If being in a band and performing in front of hundreds and thousands of people sounds casual to you, then you might as well not participate. On the other hand, those of you who are genuinely interested and want to be a part of this festival are requested to start your preparations right from now. There's no time to waste young lads and ladies, we need to rock this fest." she winked. Sirius could have sworn she had winked. And Sirius could have kissed her because god, this was some crazy, gobsmacking news.
He felt dizzy from all the excitement sputtering up in his chest. He turned to look at Remus, who was already looking at him intently. He knew. Moony knew. And so did Prongs and Pete.
Sirius Black was about to live his dream with his best mates by his side and no fucking body could stop him. He could trust them with his life and they were going to do this together. Holy mother of god, they were going to be in a band and rock the stage together. He couldn't help it, his mouth split up into a broad grin. Remus flashed a matching grin right back at him.

Author's Notes :
There goes the first chapter of the fic I've been wanting to write for months<3. I don't exactly have the total number of chapters planned out, but it's going to be fairly long I believe. I don't think my vocabs large enough to write this, but I figure it never is going to be large enough so I might as well start now. Everything might seem a bit flat right now since we're just getting started - and most of the characters haven't even come into the picture yet - but I promise it is going to get better and y'all are going to thoroughly enjoy the fic ;)). The first chapter is a bit short for my liking, the chapters are going to get longer as the story progresses. Also the fic is gonna be told from different character povs, just putting it out there!
