a simple question, yet to 18 year old aubrey, it's the hardest to answer.

By the last night of the trip, none of us wanted to sleep.
High school graduation had taken place barely two weeks ago, and somehow the six of us managed to end up in a cramped two-room apartment in the heart of Tokyo's night life. It was as if we were all desperate to make the most of our last days before adulthood came around and swallowed everyone whole: University offers. Internships. Moving away. Adulthood. Thankfully, all of those phrases felt a wold away when the distinct neon lights of Tokyo glowed outside the apartment windows at midnight.
The girls — Isla, Blythe and I claimed the room with the larger closet space, of course. The guys — Luca, Ruben and Kai, were left with no choice but to take the one across the hall. This meant Luca spent the entirety of the past 8 days dramatically suffering over "long-distance". Technically, Luca and I weren't even together — oh, how I wish we were!, our friends just treated us like we were. There had simply been too many almost-hand-holds and too much accidental flirting (which led to many eyes rolled) for anyone to believe otherwise. However, I definitely think it's about time we both stop pretending we didn't want something more to happen between us.
As I lay restless in the pitch black darkness of my room, I scrolled through the hundreds of pictures Isla, the self-proclaimed photographer of our friend group, took of us at Tokyo Skytree. That's when I felt my phone buzz with a message notification:

Of course, I couldn't stop the face-splitting smile from spreading across my face. Eyes quickly darting to the top left-hand corner of the screen, I checked the time -- 1:16AM.
I was not even remotely tired, as if the adrenaline from the past few days never died down. Worse: I was hungry!
My phone buzzed again:
