"It hurts so much." Emily sobbed, clutching her heart as if it would make the pain go away.

"Shh, it'll be okay." Sylvia, her best friend told her while wrapping her arms around her.

"No. It won't be." Emily shook her head in total disbelief as she cried onto her best friends shoulder.

She didn't believe that it would be okay, because she knew it wasn't going to be.

You know that feeling, when your heart breaks? It's like someone just said "oh hey by the way I'm going to make you fall for me and then just break your heart."

It's unexpected, you never thought it would happen to you. That person made you think that they were the one.

You saw a future with them, but just in general you'd do anything to make sure they're happy.

Love is either the best or the worst thing a person can come across in life.

In Emily's eyes, it's the worse.

Emily is a sweet girl, caring, kind, and a total history nerd. She was dating Carter Jacobson, the school's player.

Except when he was with her they lasted almost three years, so with her he was different.

I speak in past tense because Emily caught him cheating on her with someone she thought was one of her best friends, Kayla.

The first thing Emily did was leave the party and go to Sylvia's, they've been friends since they were in diapers.

"I don't know what to do anymore. I know that today's just the beginning and that it's just going to get worse from here."

Sylvia didn't say anything, she didn't know how to make her see that she was wrong. "It takes time." Was all she could say for the words she wished to say refused to leave her lips.

She was right though, it truly does takes time.

Emily didn't say anything else, she just continued to cry.

"Ice cream and netflix?" A small laugh escaped from Emily's lips before giving her a tearful nod.

Hesitantly Sylvia left to go get the ice cream, leaving Emily to do the one thing she knew she shouldn't have.

She looked at all her old photos.

She watched the videos, stared at the pictures that her and Carter took. She couldn't help but smile at the memories, despite the fact he had hurt her.

"Were we ever real?" She asked no one in particular just herself.

Her phone vibrated to let her know it was dying.

She turned off her phone entirely and laid down staring at the ceiling. She didn't fight the darkness, instead she let it consume her.

She fell asleep hoping to forget that day.
