Squeak... squeak... squeak...
The sound of the rubber soled sneakers against the linoleum could be heard softly, followed by the creak of a door opened into a single hospital room.
The room was decorated in all white and it was full of various metallic instruments just like any other hospital room, but the only sound inside was the slow beep of the machine monitoring the patient on the only bed in the room, inside a controlled temperature glass cube.
A woman in her late twenties - wearing a white nurse uniform - entered the solitary room in the secret underground basement where only a few authorized personnel could enter, and she checked all the indicator marks before she observed the unconscious patient from behind the glass, since no one was authorized to enter the isolation cube except for the doctor in charge.
The patient - a beautiful young girl with long silver hair and pale complexion - looked like she was asleep, but with all the tubes and instruments that went into her body, she was actually in an induced coma due to the unexplainable disease that she had ever since she reached 18, where her short hair suddenly grew floor-length and turned silver, and she convulsed wildly with all of her 7 orifices hemorrhaging. If not a good samaritan helped her by calling an ambulance, she surely would have died from the ruptured blood vessels from all over her body.
After a long and torturing experiment that caused her to almost die more than a few times, the doctor noticed that the cold temperature was actually helping her blood vessels to stabilize, so he contacted the research center to help identify her illness and it was already a year ago without any result.
The silence inside the room was almost deafening to normal people, but since the girl was not conscious, it shouldn't bother her a bit, although the nurse always felt that something was not right, but she never had the guts to ask.
She was a devout Buddhist and she thought that it was probably a retribution from Heavenly Dao from the sins of her parents or from her past life, so she could only help by reciting sutras for her to get better soon.
She wanted to give her the protection talisman she got from the temple but she had no way to get into the cube, so she could only pray every time she checked on her.
Of course she wanted to ask questions about the condition of the poor little girl, but she rarely saw the doctor and thought that if she did see a doctor, she wouldn't know what to ask anyway.
Her job was just to do a daily routine check for this special case, and with the sky high payment, she enjoyed the job immensely. Asking around about things that were none of her business was usually what the first victim of the mad serial killer did in the horror movie and she was not that stupid to do the same just for a little bit of curiosity.
After all, they all said that curiosity killed the cat, and she refused to be that cat.
She left as quickly as she entered, as she needed to do more rounds upstairs, after all this was also a legit private hospital with the rich and powerful as its patrons.
After the nurse left, the silence then continued, followed by the rhythmic beeping sound of the monitors - just like any other day.
But not long after, a milky, childlike voice was heard inside the girl's mind.
