THE WEDDING DAY

The condo was quiet.

Too quiet.

Krystal was still standing near the door, arms crossed, trying to process why Caprice was suddenly in front of her.

“Ba’t ka nandito?” Krystal asked again, softer this time.

Caprice walked inside like she already knew the place.

“Matutulog ako dito,” she repeated.

Krystal almost laughed.

“Caprice… ikakasal ka na bukas.”

Caprice stopped walking.

Then she looked at her.

“Eh ikaw naman may gusto na ikasal ako sa lalaki, diba?”

Krystal froze.

The words hit harder than expected.

“That’s what your parents said to me,” Krystal finally said quietly.

Caprice turned around fast.

“At nakinig ka naman sa kanila?” she said, disbelief in her voice. “Diba ang sabi ko sa’yo, wag na wag kang makikinig sa kanila?”

Krystal looked away.

“Caprice… hindi ganun kadali.”

“Hindi rin madali para sa’kin,” Caprice shot back.

Silence filled the room.

Krystal clenched her fists.

“You’re marrying him tomorrow.”

Caprice stared at her.

Then she laughed.

Not happily.

Just tired.

“Krystal… do you even know who I’m marrying?”

Krystal frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Caprice stepped closer.

“Hindi ko siya pinili dahil mahal ko siya.”

Krystal’s chest tightened.

“Then why?”

Caprice shrugged.

“Because it’s convenient.”

Krystal blinked.

“What?”

Caprice sighed and sat on the couch.

Then she dropped the bomb.

“He’s gay.”

Krystal’s eyes widened.

“…What?”

Caprice looked at her calmly.

“Bading din siya.”

Krystal was completely stunned.

“So… this whole wedding—”

“Is an arrangement,” Caprice finished.

Krystal sat down slowly across from her.

“Why would you do that?”

Caprice looked straight at her.

“Because someone I love decided to listen to my parents instead of me.”

Krystal’s breath caught.

The weight of the words settled between them.

“So this…” Krystal whispered, gesturing around, “all of this is because of me?”

Caprice didn’t answer immediately.

She just leaned back and stared at the ceiling.

“Tomorrow,” she said quietly, “everyone will think I finally did what they wanted.”

Krystal’s voice shook.

“And what do you want?”

Caprice turned her head.

Their eyes met.

Then she said softly—

“I wanted you to fight for me.”

The room fell silent.

And suddenly, the wedding tomorrow didn’t feel certain anymore.
