Lena and Kelly arrive at an abandoned DEO site in the Nevada desert, where Lena feels drawn due to her magical instincts. The facility is isolated and untouched, but Alex confirms its safety before questioning whether the trip is necessary.

"Okay, but hold on why does everything have to be in the middle of a desert?" Lena huffed, squinting against the glare of the Nevada sun as she adjusted the strap of her backpack. The dry air clung to her skin, already prickling with sweat beneath her lightweight jacket.

Kelly chuckled, adjusting her own hat against the relentless sunlight. "Because secret government facilities love dramatic locations. Didn't you get the memo?"

Lena rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a small smile. The abandoned DEO site stretched before them a cluster of low, sand blasted buildings half buried in the dunes, their metal exteriors bleached pale by years of exposure. She'd gotten the coordinates from an old L-Corp database, one even Lex hadn't thought to purge. Something about this place had hummed at the edge of her awareness ever since she'd started experimenting with magic, like a distant radio signal she couldn't quite tune in.

Alex jogged up from behind, her boots kicking up tiny puffs of dust. "Perimeter's clear. No signs of recent activity, but the place hasn't been touched in years. You sure this is worth the trip?"

Lena tapped the screen of her tablet, watching as the augmented reality overlay flickered to life, highlighting energy signatures invisible to the naked eye. "Oh, it's worth it" she murmured, more to herself than to Alex. A pulsing, irregular pattern bloomed across the display something deep beneath the main facility. Not Kryptonian but not exactly magical either. Something... else. The hairs on the back of her neck prickled.

Kelly sidled up next to her, peering at the screen. "That's not just residual energy from old DEO tech, is it?"

"No" Lena said slowly. "It's reacting to me..." She flexed her fingers experimentally, and the readings spiked in response. The artifact if that's what it was seemed to resonate with the magic thrumming beneath her skin. A shiver ran down her spine Alex frowned, her hand instinctively hovering near her sidearm. "We should call Brainy. Run diagnostics before you go poking at some ancient alien paperweight"

Lena waved Alex off, already stepping forward toward the nearest building. "If we wait for Brainy to analyze every anomaly, we'll never get anything done. "Besides..." she shot Alex a smirk over her shoulder, "since when do you advocate for caution?"

Alex scoffed, but Kelly nudged her with an elbow. "She's got you there"

The interior of the facility was dim and choked with dust, the air stale with decades of neglect. Lena's tablet cast an eerie blue glow across the cracked concrete walls as she followed the pulsing signal deeper into the structure. The corridor sloped downward, the temperature dropping the further they descended. At the end of the passage, a reinforced door stood slightly ajar, its locking mechanism long since rusted open.

Kelly hesitated, her breath fogging in the chilly air. "This feels... deliberate. Like someone wanted this place to be found eventually"

Lena pushed the door fully open with a slow, creaking groan. The chamber beyond was circular its walls lined with archaic glyphs that pulsed faintly under her tablet's light. At the center stood a pedestal, and atop it a jagged, obsidian shard suspended in midair, rotating lazily as if caught in an invisible current. The air around it shimmered like heat haze, distorting the light in strange, almost hungry patterns.

Alex immediately stepped in front of her, arm outstretched. "Lena, wait!!"

But Lena was already moving forward, drawn by something she couldn't name. The artifact thrummed as she approached, its rotation speeding up slightly, and the glyphs on the walls flared brighter. A whisper brushed against her mind a presence, curious and cold. Her fingertips tingled.
