"Choose a pair." Jason insisted as we looked at the huge wall of shoes in Foot Locker.
"You don't have to do this." My shoulders slouched as my eyes travelled across the many different pairs of foot protection. I heard Jason let out a sigh. He sounded slightly irritated.
"I know I don't have to but I want to. Just choose a pair and stop being stubborn." He replied running a frustrated hand through his hair messing it up a bit. But damn did he look hot with messy hair. I shifted my weight onto one foot and studied each pair of shoes before I pointed at a simple looking pair of shoes that didn't cost too much. The box said Nike Rosche Runs. "Perfect. Is that what you want? You can get shoes that cost more." Jason studied the shoes.
"Yes, I like these ones." That wasn't a lie either. I really liked them. He nodded and I grabbed a pair in my size. We walked towards the counter, Jason's hand rested on the small of my back. I slid the shoes onto the counter and the male cashier scanned the shoes and recited the price. Jason casually handed the money over and the cashier bagged the shoes.
Once we were back in Jason's car he began driving. I still felt bad for accepting the shoes from him. I admit I did need a new pair but I just don't like when people buy me things. It just reminds me that I'm incapable of paying for myself, and that I'm poor. "Thank you for the shoes but-"
"No buts, you're welcome. I know you didn't want me to spend money on you but you really do deserve it. Don't feel bad, I have plenty of money to go around. Soon you'll be making money we just need you to sign a contract and even while you're training you'll be making money. Lots of it at that. Just don't worry about it alright?" He silenced me and I hesitantly nodded before sitting back in my seat. I guess he wasn't wrong in what he said.
Although he was trying to make me feel better about this situation I only felt worse. I was willing to go into training, to learn how to kill people for large sums of money. I mean yes the income would be great but I'm one, risking my life and two, committing the idiotic crime that landed my mother in jail only god knows how much more times. I always despised my mother for killing someone who was probably innocent, but now I'm just a hypocritical fuck up.
The one thing I wouldn't do that my mother did, was drugs. I was aware that Charlotte smoked pot and probably did other drugs but I just don't think I could bring myself to do that. I'm sure Jason and everyone else in the gang did drugs as well but that's their choice. I won't allow them to pressure me into doing something so moronic.
I'm risking my life as it is, why jeopardize it even more?

We finally arrived at the gym after a long car ride of silence. I would've talked if I wasn't consumed in my own thoughts. I couldn't help but continue to think about all the stupid shit I had yet to have done. I climbed out of the car and walked through the gym doors along side Jason.
We were stood in the boxing ring of the underground gym. I had on a pair of hand wraps and Jason wore jab pads.
"Alright so I'm sure you know the basics but this is just defending practice." Jason explained and I nodded getting in the awkward but familiar stance. Jason named all of the defence moves to refresh my memory and I'll admit I did forget some. We stayed in the ring, him calling out moves and I either dodging or responding to the hits. "You did well." Jason praises as we sit on the bench and I wipe the beads of sweat from my forehead.
"Well? No I did amazing and you're just too egotistic to admit it." I smirked playfully but Jason stiffened.
"I'm too egotistic? Last time I checked I've been trying to help you every chance I get. I'm the on who welcomed you and Charlotte with open arms. I bought you a new bed and new shoes and I was planning on buying you more. But I mean, if you think I'm 'too egotistic' then I guess I'll show you egotistic." Jason scoffed, his mood had instantly changed. I was joking, why did he take that so seriously? I didn't mean to piss him off and I surely don't think he's actually obsessed with himself. I in took a breath of air and then exhaled.
