Fire, blood, chaos, everywhere.
How did this happen?, we made sure we were hidden, we never compromised our location for anything.
How?.
After all these years of sacrificing people, sacrificing our sanity, our homes, our lives, our families, after all of that we get killed for what?.
All these questions run through my head and then I spot him, standing in the middle of all this chaos with a blank, vacant expression on his face.
It was right in front of us but we refused to see it.
Once they came everything started to fall apart, for some reason we were almost found so many times.
We would have noticed if we weren't desperate to save what little of us are still walking as fugitives in this self-righteous world.
“Why?.” I ask as I approach him. “We took you in, we gave you a home when you said you had no other but you do this to us?.”
He looks at me and smirks. “Your feigned kindness doesn't fool anyone, I saw the way you all lived, waiting patiently for the day we let our guard down so you filthy demons can do the evil you have in those filthy hearts of yours.”
“Look around!, If anyone has a filthy heart it is your kind. You all do these under the guise of protecting your, own you are murderers and I hope you spend the rest of your days in agony for what you have done to us you–.” The words are slapped out of my mouth as his palm collides with my cheek.
The force of the unexpected hit makes me fall the the floor as he draws a sword that I didn't notice before walking over to him.
“The world would be a better place without you demons ruining it with your filth. You should have run when you had the chance.”
And without remorse he plunges his sword into my abdomen.
I let out a deafening scream as I feel the blade pierce through my skin and my flesh.
Pain consumes me as my vision blurred and all I saw was the fire spreading to the highest branch on the tall trees that we once thought were concealing us.
“You deserve a slow death for your impertinence, you will burn along with this forest and the rest of your people.” He says with malice.
Slowly I hear footsteps receding and I'm left to die like the rest of my people.
How thoughtful of him to take advantage of the fact that demons of my kind function like them, we have blood, functioning brains and organs. We don't kill aimlessly like the old demons talked about in the folktales.
But that is not enough for them.
If you do not have the magic that lives up to their superficial standards you're not good enough.
Then again we were too trusting, letting outsiders in despite knowing how unsafe it was.
We trusted too much and now we're paying for it with our lives.
I cough out a surge of blood that had come up to my throat and a tear falls.
I should've known better, they took everything from me, how could I not have seen through them.
They took my family and then came back for me.
Oh poor Neera, a fool for this world.
Would you like another chance, would you like to make them pay.
Take from them like they have taken from you.
Show them the villain they created, show them the villain they want to see.
They have treated us like we were the problem when they were just too afraid to give us a chance.
Say yes, say yes.
I'll make the pain go away.
I'll make it easy again, just say yes.
I can hear whispers, is this what happens when you're about to die.
Do people hear voices.
More blood comes out of my mouth as my wound gushes.
Say yes, say yes.
Do I even deserve another chance, I was so stupid with the first one I was given.
It'll be easier to just go, it'll be easier to just rest.
No more running, no more fear, just peace.
Say yes, say yes.
I can make them pay for everything they did to me, I can make them pay for everything they took from me and I can make them beg like the way every single one of my people begged when swords were plunged through them like the one in my stomach was plugged through me.
“Yes, I want another chance, yes.”
All I could feel after that was pain.
It was like every flame in the forest clung to me, burning it's way through my skin as whatever it was that promised me a second chance took over my body.
I don't know which was more painful, the sword or the fire.
But I could feel it's presence, I knew something had possessed my body.
And as I stood up and pulled the sword out of my already healing body I laughed.
How Ironic that a demon can get possessed.
