just a chore a list to keep track of everything, and just to see if things will change later on. also, i just need something to write about; it's soooo boring now that i've finished my chores for the day anyway :\

fiona

honestly, fiona's job is literally the most important out of all of us, so we treat her right! she grows every single thing that we eat on the property. she feeds all of us, including ms. peregrine. i was gonna say that if fiona ever caught a cold we'd be utterly fucked, but it's impossible to get sick here. no contact with the outside world.

she grows literally all of our ingredients, and it's everyone else's job to process them. she can grow wheat for flour, most of all fruits and veggies that we like (no matter the season because i'm here), mushrooms, herbs and spices for both flavor and medicine, et cetera.

my personal favorite is when she grows popcorn kernels for our movie nights, or that one time i asked her to make me a giant strawberry. shes so sweet, honestly. she grows dark berries or flowers for us girls so we have some 'makeup' to play with.

all thanks to fiona, we eat well here, i'll admit. we are all kinda vegan at this point, with no animals to raise or tend to. it's fine, i just desperately long for a steak, or even some eggs at that. me, olive, and emma tried fishing once to bring back, but we all really suck at it.

most notably, fifi also grows cotton and plant dyes, for our clothes.

i <3 fiona! she grows food i love, like figs or green tea.

olive

olive is pretty high up there on the 'importancy' scale in terms of chores. but, the more important you are, the more chores you have to tend to. she lights all the fires, like for the stoves, fireplaces, and even lights around the house since this house is rickety old! she's there for us when one of us needs to cook or prepare something. occasionally, she also tends to the heater during the nighttime.

sometimes i ask her to reheat my tea, if it's alright. she can actually style hair too! since her hands are so hot... and she's very talented at it! she can do ringlets, curls, waves, and even straightening if she tries hard enough. it's very fun.

emma:

i think emma's biggest job is probably to make sure that the wind generator is working. the house is old but there are still some things that require electricity anyway. she just blows large gusts of wind to get it going when we need it. her peculiarity is also quite useful in the summer, when we can ask her to just blow some cold air on us. she's also in charge of turning off all the 'lights', by blowing out all of the lamps that olive lit earlier.

quite goofy, but she helps us dry our hair very, very quickly!

me:

i just do all the weather stuff, in catering to either fiona's plants or to what the kids want. most of the time, i make it rain, not just for the plants, but also so that we may have water to drink. i actually try not to temper with the real weather too much; it makes everything feel more real and like real life.

sometimes, as a treat, i make snow days or rainbows for the kids. it makes me happy, seeing them have fun like that. i also make it windy sometimes, when the kids make diy kites to try to fly.

this isn't peculiarity-related, but, since i love fashion so much (was supposed to be a fashion major in college), ms. peregrine assigned me to be everyone's clothes-maker! it's my favorite thing in the whole world, since we have a cloth loom and even a rickety old sewing machine. it's so so fun to style everyone. i get to put the cutest little dresses on the little girls, and fun colors and patterns on the boys. olive and emma always ask me for new, beautiful dresses, and of course i deliver!

bronwyn:

wynnie's strength is always useful, mostly for carrying large batches of the grown food into the house. she also helps us carry large pots and pans for cooking... heck, she can even drag the chopped trees so that we can use them for firewood. very rarely, she may help with construction the one time that we need to fix something.

she is also excellent at helping us rearrange the furniture in our rooms, so that things can feel fresh. no one has ever beaten her at an arm wrestle. she is so kind and quick with it too! but, we always try our best to not ask her for too much because she is still a kid, and deserves to spend her time playing.

hugh:

hugh and fiona almost go hand in hand, since she is plants and he is bees. his bees keep the plants fiona grows healthy, though they do not produce honey... which i thought was odd. either way, he's there to fill in the gaps so that fiona doesn't overwork herself.

claire:

claire's sharp teeth are actually surprisingly useful, we've learned. of course, she's still (and will probably forever be) a little girl, so we try not to ask her of much. but, she mostly cuts or shreds objects. we can't do food because that's unsanitary, but things like rope and such are fine.

this is oddly specific, but i ask her to cut the thread on my sewing projects alot.

horace:

honestly, horace's chore is very underrated, IMO. he keeps all of us entertained, which i personally see as pretty valuable. with his eye, he can play stuff for us (not gilmore girls but it's alright). it's mostly old things though, like, VERY old. but, it makes the kids very happy.

sometimes, he also helps me with clothing everyone. he also likes clothes, and it's really interesting to hear his takes on styles from his time. it's so fun! he likes to help measure people for me, or provide feedback.

. . .

okay... as for enoch, the twins, and millard... their peculiarities literally cannot be used for anything necessary, respectfully (sorry babe!). not even a little bit! so, they do the regular stuff.

the twins are the youngest, so they do not have chores. also, no use in turning people in the stone (yet).

enoch and millard kind of do chores interchangeably; the biggest thing that needs to always be done is to process the stuff that fiona grows. that means a lot of grinding wheat, washing produce, et. cetera. they're both teenaged-to-young-adult boys, so we make them do quite a bit of the manual labor. plus, i get to watch enoch use his arms, which is always a win.

the kids that have less chores, like horace and hugh, usually set the table or do the dishes for dinnertime,

a combination of me, emma, and olive are in charge of cooking. we'd make enoch cook but he is AWFUL at it, holy shit. my sweet sweet enoch... he only cooks war rations and great depression recipes, if you catch my drift. but, sometimes he just cuts ingredients or is there for silent moral support.

there's like, a lot of times i've wished that everyone could just have a break from chores but, that can't be helped when everyone's livelihood literally depends on it. i so desperately wish that we were back in the real world, where toilet paper and AC exists. seriously, i've debated running away just because of that.
