"Where is Islay?" Northern Ireland asked staring down at Scotland who was sat by the flower beds in their front garden busy gardening and planting seeds in the soil during the warm summer day for a couple of hours since he had nothing to do. The young sweet girl wanted to find her brother, Britain, and play with him.
"I believe he's inside, how about you check inside the house, may I also ask why?" Scotland answered back staring at his youngest sibling with tired eyes as he had been struggling to sleep for a couple of days.
Northern Ireland nodded her head cheerfully before replying "I want to play with him because i'm bored!".
"Ah, okay then have fun and do not cause any trouble, I'll be here incase you need anything" Scotland answered back with a small smile. Northern Ireland then turned around heading to the front door leaving the very tired and exhausted scotsman in the garden to go search for Britain.
Northern Ireland walked through the front door of the house, the bright sun illuminated the dim hall through the windows. The green decorative wallpaper and the dark brown panelling on the walls appeared brighter due to the sun shining through. It was a lot less quieter than usual as Wales and Ireland had set out to go to the town and buy some ingredients to make something for dinner in the evening. Usually you would be able to hear the two talking together or to someone else from somewhere in the house as they were the more talkative ones.
She then overheard noises she couldn't comprehend and turned to look at where the noises were coming from. The noise was coming from inside the living room, Northern Ireland approached the living room door which was slightly opened and peaked into the room hiding behind the wooden door.
Inside she could see both Britain and England, at first she assumed they were just talking and went to open the living room door wider to go into the room and join them in their conversation, then she was startled as England suddenly yanked Britain by his hair and began coldly berating him without warning, shouting cruel words no child should hear. Northern Ireland eyes widened in shock, she felt her heart racing in her chest, unsure of what to do. She wanted to go in and confront England but fear kept her trapped in that spot only being able to watch. She watched everything, she saw how Britain trembled in utter fear, flinching when England made the slightest movement while continuing to yell at him, how England grabbed Britain tightly by the arm until his arm was bruised when he tried to move away from him.
When Northern Ireland finally found the courage to move, she quickly ran to the stairs and went straight into hers and Britains room. Everything replayed in her mind as she sat on her bed, trying to understand why England would act so harsh and violent to Britain.
So many questions rushed through her mind but the only one she couldn't stop thinking about was "why did I just stand there?".

Later that day in the evening, Northern Ireland sat on a chair in the dining room with Britain across from her who sat still not muttering a word. He had his head hung low staring down at the table.
In the room next to them, Wales and Ireland worked busily together preparing dinner. Where England and Scotland where at was unknown, though were most likely having some sort of argument with each other somewhere as England seemed to enjoy trying to start arguments with Scotland over the smallest of things.
Northern Ireland stared at Britain unknowing of what to say, should she ask him if he was okay? What happened between him and England?. She didn't know. She wanted to say something, say anything to him but the words just felt stuck in her throat.
"Uhh.. Islay" Northern Ireland managed to mumble out, staring nervously at Britain as he lifted his head up to look at her.
Northern Ireland paused for a second unsure of how to continue.
"Earlier... earlier today I... I saw Daniel hurt you, he was also yelling at you a lot" The second Northern Ireland mentioned England hurting Britain, Britain froze in place staring in fear, not like the fear he was in before when England was yelling and hurting him but in the fear a person would get when someone found out about something they weren't supposed to know.
Britains mouth kept opening and closing like he was trying to say something yet no words came out.
The two sat there in uncomfortable silence as Britain stared at Northern Ireland in shock and fear while Northern Ireland sat anxiously waiting for some kind of response from Britain.
The silence was broken by Britain saying, his voice barely above a whisper "What?".
"I saw it" Northern Ireland replied back avoiding eye contact staring at the kitchen door that connected the dining room like she was watching incase someone walked in.
"Does he always do that?" She asked nervously turning her gaze back to her brother.
Britain was silent for a moment trying to decide whether he should lie or tell the truth, trying to decide whether Northern Ireland would keep this to herself or tell one of the others about it.
"He does yell at me a lot and say cruel things to me but hes never hurt me"
Northern Ireland looked pitifully at Britain "Why have you not told anyone about this? Like Ciarán, you could tell him and he would talk to Daniel and tell him to stop".
There was more silence.
"Daniel told me not to tell anyone and that it was normal" Britain admitted putting all his trust into his sister and telling her truthfully everything.
Northern Ireland felt astonished by this, she knew this wasn't normal at all, whenever England and Scotland would fight they were always told off by Ireland so obviously it wasn't okay, yet what made it different for England and Britain?
"Are you sure?" Northern Ireland questioned.
Hesitate Britain replied back sounding desperate and that he would cry "I am, just please don't tell anyone, Daniel said it would be bad if I told someone, that it would get worse if someone found out".
"I won't tell anyone" Northern Ireland could hear the desperation in his voice, it hurt her. She didn't know what the "it would get worse" part meant and a part of her didn't want to.
"Promise me, i swear it will be fine".
...
"I promise".
