Please God, let him be soft. Let him be something other than himself in that moment, something other than a martyr. Something other than the holy entity of godhood he has shaped himself into. I'll do anything to make it so. Anything at all.
[The Consequence]
God is always listening. Grandma used to say so. Her hands were calloused things, tugging at my hair as if she were trying to drill it into my head. The only thing worth chasing is a dream. There are days when those words are the only thing I can think of. That is how it has always been, and how it should have stayed, but we cannot help who we love. God can give and grant and spare, but in the end there is always a price to be paid.
[The Dog And It's Owner]
The boy in my bedroom is bloodied and broken, a strange dog without it's owner. The dog is muzzled, biting at anything and everything it can find, filled with hatred and anger that does not soften. I think I want to keep him, God. You answer me by letting him stay. I learn to love the dog, and the words disappear. There are other things worth chasing now. The dog slowly morphs back into a boy, and I watch him through rose coloured lenses.
