Holding a piece of rope in one hand and a fish in the other you stand in front of the pantry. You had told Stoick that morning that you were gonna take a walk in the woods as an excuse to go see the dragon again. And now you are gonna try to correct its bad leg.

Opening the door a little you spot them in one of the corners sleeping. They seemed to have eaten all the food available as well. Now in the light you noticed they were a little small compared to the other dragons you had seen. But nobody had ever been able to see how big the Night Fury was.

"Hey." you say attempting to get their attention.

The eye facing closest to you peeked open making contact with you and they growled angrily.

"Hey look, got you something." you say holding up the fish.

The dragon momentarily looked at the fish then back at you. You throw the fish to the ground, "There."

Keeping their eyes glued on you they stand up, holding their injured leg up in the air and approach the fish. It was only at that moment that you noticed something else wrong with the dragon. It was their right wing, it was bent half way through the first finger and hung lower than the other.

A broken leg and wing. This was going to be harder than you first thought. Or maybe easier now that it couldn't fly away.

It was only once they started to eat that you tried getting closer. Slowly you leaned forward with the rope in hand, the dragon was too smart though and caught on to you immediately.

They snapped their jaws at you showing off large white teeth. Covering your noise you say while shuddering, "You should really clean your mouth, wrecks of death."

The dragon huffed as if saying, what did you expect?

After what felt like an hour of staying still the night fury began gnawing at the fish again. This time you waited a little longer until they were relaxed before you try a reattempt. Holding the rope you got closer to their back legs, you hoped that you could tie them together and its mouth so that it wouldn't be able to hurt you and you could do your job without losing a limb.

Just as you were about to get its legs they turned around snarling. It was now or never. You jump towards their rear legs and loop the rope around them once. That was all you could do before they charged forward in pursuit to get as far away from you as possible. Thought before they get too far you pull the rope in opposite directions trapping their legs together.

They fell to the ground and began making loud thrilling calls of distress while their left wing flapped aggressively. It was very loud.

Your ears ring as you quickly tie the rope around their back legs tightly.

"Oh hey wait-wait, don't make so much noise people are gonna hear it." You say moving to the font of them ducking away from their wing. "I'm sorry I know you're frightened but you don't understand that I'm trying to help you so I have to do this. I don't want you to hurt me and I don't want to have to hurt you."

They quieted down, heavily breathing as they watched you with slit pupils. It was a little unnerving seeing such predatory eyes staring at you, the kind that you would see just before you were eaten by a wild animal.

Kneeling down you grab another rope and begin to wrap it around its head which just like with the legs was not easy to do. They kept on trying to bite you or scratch you with their left paw leaving long red streaks down your arms. But you were a stubborn viking and didn't stop till you were done.

You huff out your mouth as you sit up, "there the worst part is over, now I can banged that leg and wing now."

You open a small bag at your side and pull out some cloth and metal rods. You had secretly borrowed the metal rods from Gobber, you hoped he didn't mind. Placing the two rods on either side of their swollen leg you slowly start to wrap the cloth around over them, being as gentle as you possibly could.

The dragon observed you from the corner of their eye, never looking away even for a moment.

Once you were done with the leg you moved on to the wing which was gonna be an even bigger challenge. You couldn't wrap up the individual finger so you folded the wing against the body and wrapped the whole of the wing with the cloth.

Just before you cut the ropes off the dragon you get an idea. Reaching your hand out to their head you stroke it a few times feeling the texture of their scales beneath your hand. They were rough and warm like bread that had been baking in the oven. There was such a powerful and stunning beauty to them. You smile giddily, many people have killed dragons but you don't think anyone has ever touched one quite like this. The look in the dragon eyes was unreadable, they did still seem a little on edge but more relaxed then earlier.

With a bit of hesitation you slice the ropes off of them. At this opportunity the dragon immediately stands up and lets out its loudest roar yet. You cover your ears as you backed up against the wall. As it ends you take to running out the pantry and peek in through the door.

The night fury gave you a death glare then ate at the fish once more, its tail flickering back and forth.

You couldn't believe that you had done that and lived to tell the tale (or not since this was supposed to be a secret) with only a few scratches. Though it was time to leave now. Just before you go you leave some more fish and a bowl of water behind for them in the pantry.

And that's how the next few months went by. Whenever the chance came by you would sneak out the house and visit the night fury seeing how its progress was coming along. It was the one thing that was on your mind, everything else seemed boring in retrospect: hunting, fishing, planning for the next attack. Though you did enjoy hanging out with Hiccup at home or at Gobbers blacksmithing shop, occasionally talking to the locals your age.

The first few weeks with the Night Fury were very dangerous like you had come to expect from the first two times. Although you had helped them they didn't trust you, not even one tiny bit. They stalked you from the pantry and when you let them out to roam the rest of the house, they kept their distance.

For a while you thought the dragon would never trust you, until one day when you were taking some fish out a bag to give to them. As you were pulling them out you felt a nudge on your back and a sound like whining. Looking over your shoulder you spotted the dragon sitting down patiently, boring their eyes into you.

You raised your eyebrow, "I thought you didn't like me. Now you're begging for fish from me."

They nudged you again, continuing to stare at you.

"Okay, you can have one. I was gonna give them to you anyway." you say, grabbing one of the fishes and throwing it on the ground for them. They went over to it instantaneously swallowing it whole.

As the days went by these kinds of moments happened more and more often. When you came the Night Fury went from suspicious to curious to excited. He knew that your arrival meant food and attention. And soon something very special happened.

You had been sitting in the house observing the night fury as it went about its business, sniffing, attempting to open up draws, climbing up the stairs. (though they stopped then they heard the boards creak under their weight.)

Right now they were laying on their back as they pawed and played with the carpet on the floor. It was quite amusing to see such a widely feared animal acting like a young house cat. You laughed at them causing them to roll back over and look at you curiously.

"Sorry didn't mean to disturb your playing." you say to them, "it was just too funny."

The night fury then began to approach you with a little bit of difficulty as they limped across the room, sitting down in front of you. You canned your head wondering what they were doing and they copied you, also tilting their head. Smiling, you turn your head to the other side to see if they would copy that as well. They did. Recentering your head you just look at them, marveling at their beautiful big eyes and curious nature.

Putting your hand out you offer it to them. They leaned closer to your outstretched hand taking a sniff of it before lightly tapping it with their noise. He put his whole face in the palm of your hand, signing out hot breath onto your arm.

You smile even more. This hadn't been the first time you had touched them, but it was the first time that both of you had wanted to touch each other at the same time.

He backed away from you after a moment.
