The next morning, classes were starting. Y/n walked into DADA, seeing people mostly fooling around since Umbridge was nowhere to be seen. Y/n took her seat next to Draco. An enchanted paper bird was flying around the room, until it disintegrated, falling onto a desk near the front.

Umbridge was at the back of the class now, smiling professionally. "Good morning, children," she said. Everyone turned their bodies in their chairs to see the woman. She slowly walked down the middle row to make it to the front, "Ordinary Wizarding Level examinations," she wrote on a chalkboard with her wand as she walked. "O-W-L. More commonly know as," she turned around, reaching the front, "Owls. Study hard, and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences may be severe." She whipped her wand at the stacks of books behind her, not even looking at them. They floated out, handing themselves out to each students. "Your previous instructions in this subject has been disturbingly uneven. But you'll be pleased to know from now on, you will be following a carefully structured, Ministry approved course of defense magic." Hermione raised her hand, "yes?"

"There's nothing in here about using defensive spells," Hermione said.

"Using spells?" She repeated, giggling like a hyena, "Well, I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom."

"We're not gonna use magic?" Ron asked, confused.

"You'll be learning about defensive spells," she turned to him, "in a secure, risk-free way," she said simply.

"Well, what use is that?" Harry asked. "If we're gonna be attacked, it won't be risk-free."

She turned her back, walking back to front, "Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class." She turned back around, "It is the view of the Ministry that a theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through examinations-which are, after all, what school is about."

"And how is theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?" Harry interrupted.

"There is nothing out there, dear," she replied. "Who would you imagine wants to attack children like yourself?"

"Oh, I don't know," Harry said sarcastically. "Maybe Lord Voldemort."

Umbridge's smile dropped for the first time in the entire class, most kids looked down. Y/n smirked to herself. Umbridge smiled again, "now, let me make this... quite plain. You have been told that a certain dark wizard is at large once again." She walked down the middle row again. "This. Is. A. Lie."

"It's not a lie," Harry argued. "I saw him, I fought him! Y/n can back me up, she was there too-"

Everyone looked at Y/n who dropped her smirk and looked around at everyone with a deadpan stare. "Detention Mr. Potter!" She cut him off, storming to the front of the classroom.

"So according to you, Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord?" Harry said, and some gasps, glancing at Y/n who seemed unfazed. They had all known by now she didn't remember.

"Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident." Umbridge retorted immediately.

"It was murder!" Harry argued, "Voldemort killed him, you must know that! Y/n back me up!" He looked over at the girl who was a few rows back.

"Enough!" Umbridge screeched. She calmed down a moment, "see you later, Mr. Potter. My office. Ms. L/n too."

Y/n glared at Harry, why did he have to drag her into it? "But Professor-" Y/n raised her hand, receiving a glare from the woman.

After class, Y/n and Harry went into Umbridge's office. Y/n was giving Harry a nasty glare the whole time. Harry knocked on the door.

"Why'd you drag me into it?" She muttered.

"I needed them to believe me," he whispered back.

"Well, you did a great job, didn't you?"

"Come in," they heard Umbridge reply to the knock. Harry opened the door and the two stepped inside. "Good evening, Mr. Potter, Ms. L/n. Sit."

They both sat in the overly pink office. There were plates with cats hung on the wall, and the entire walls, furniture, everything was pink. "You're going to be doing some lines for me today, Mr. Potter."

"And me?" Y/n asked, a bit nervous.

"You are to watch the consequences if you are to do what Mr. Potter pulled today." She smiled, standing up. Harry went to grab his quill, "no, not your quill. You're going to be using a rather special one of mine." She put a quill in front of him. "Now," she instructed. "I want you to write, 'I must not tell lies.'" She stood behind him.

"How many times?" Harry asked.

"Well, let's say for as long as it takes for the message to sink in." Umbridge replied, then turned to the girl. "Would you like some tea?"

"Yes, please, Ms." She nodded respectfully.

The lady turned around to pour some tea for the student as Harry asked, "You haven't given me any ink."

"Oh, you won't need ink."

He began to write as she gave the girl some tea. Y/n took a sip, watching Harry write, the ink coming out red. Then he winced as his hand started to turn red. Y/n watched curiously as the words he was instructed to write appeared engraved to his skin.

Umbridge stepped in front of Harry, "Yes?"

"Nothing," he replied after a moment of silence.

"That's right," she bent down to be more eye level with him. "Because you know, deep down, you deserve to be punished. Don't you, Mr. Potter?" She paused, smiling a bit more, "Go on."

Harry swallowed nervously and continued to write. Y/n watched in silence. But after another minute, Y/n spoke up, "Excuse me, Miss, but I promised Professor Snape I'd help him set up tomorrow's lesson," she smiled confidently. It was fake, but very convincing.

"Go on, Miss L/n," she replied, waving her hand dismissively.

Y/n quickly exited the room, sighing in relief when she was finally out, while Harry watched her leave with a pleading look that said 'don't leave me here alone with this lunatic'.
