We walked out among the dead ships in the Forgotten Shore. I remember the cold.
Crisp. Clean.
Almost like The Collapse never happened.
Spinmetal grew out of the cracked earth. My rifle was heavy on my back.
Hard Light.
Vanguard says it's an all but useless instant Fusion Rifle.
More a hindrance.
It was a young weapon.
I was a young Guardian.
Both it and I would grow together.
I think he's somewhere underneath Skywatch. Farah said as we continued.
Silently I had my Ghost summon my Sparrow.
I'll scout ahead I said plainly. Make sure nothing will surprise us.
I sped off as she trailed far behind.
The shadow of the old Array loomed ahead of us.
And there was one final ship that never set off to the stars.
That's Devil's Lair.
Deep within the bowels of the Cosmodrome.
Even veteran Guardians don't dare enter.
I reached Skywatch.
It was a far cry from the snowy tundra of the rest of the Cosmodrome.
Dark.
Cold. Freezing.
Quiet. But not serene.
We were being watched.
You feel that? I heard Farah ask me.
Of course. I reply softly.
Darkness was strong in this area.
Death was more than likely.
How far down in the rabbit hole would we go.
What did this captain do to get on your hit list? I ask, brandishing Hard Light.
It's own power vibrating In my hands.
It was anxious.
He's been harassing the Walls of The City. Vanguard is afraid he'll reform some alliance between Devil's and King's.
So you're insurance. I say.
Pretty much. She snorts.
We reached the old array.
The view of the old plane graveyard was clear.
This place creeps me out. Farah said softly.
Why? You don't believe in ghosts do you? I say almost like a joke.
With all the things that happened.... I don't know how more Guardians don't...
She was right you know.
The whole vibe of the place was just wrong.
All the death. The suffering.
I can only hope it was all quick.
I look out upon the Mothyards.
Reports are that he's somewhere below here. We take the right tunnels it'll bring us out at the rear of the Jovian Complex. Farah said as if she was reading a map.
You've been tracking him for a while huh... I whisper.
She nodded silently as we crawled in the caves.
It's gonna get tight. I sat quietly.
Don't threaten me with a good time, she said with a sneer.
In an instant I felt a million things.
Like not "booga booga" universe things.
Not Guardian things.
That confused me.
Not Guardian things?
I'm a Guardian.
Always. Forever.
Right?
What if it was instead a memory?
Was I not always a child?
Confused by himself and the world?
I shook off this battle.
But thankful my helm concealed my blush.
I crouch through the small cavern, Farah close behind. She bumps me a small bit as I stop.
Wha- she starts as I stop her.
I begin to hear things.
Awful things.
Terrible howls and twisting cries.
Agony.
Not only on the the victim. But myself.
But who then is the victim.
The Darkness was rampant here.
Hive. I whisper. This is too close to The City.
