Fluff

Tw: None

Shivering, you pulled your coat tighter around yourself, breath coming out in small puffs of steam. It never snowed here, never did much of anything really. The sky stayed that eerie shade of grey, the only indicator that time passed at all being the clocks that sat in each of the cabins as well as the daily rounds. Trudging along the dirt path, your boots crunched against dead leaves. You had no idea how the temperatures could change so quickly, but it really was a pain in the butt.

In the distance you spotted your destination. The cabin was slightly lopsided, some of its walls leaning in odd directions. But to be honest, that's what most of the cabins looked like. When they became too unstable, Builderman would often try and repair them, but the way these things were constructed was... weird. Stepping up onto the small porch of the cabin, you stopped, reaching up to knock. The wood was cold against your knuckles, the roughness biting at your skin. A few moments later, you heard a voice call out to you from inside.

"Y/n! Come in!"

Chuckling, you turned the door handle, allowing yourself to enter. It was warmer inside, the small hallway being lit up by a lantern which sat on a halltable. You made sure to lock the door behind you, sliding the chain into the lock. While there wasn't much need to lock doors in this place, it gave you a feeling of security. Most of the survivors had common courtesy or knocking before entering. Well... most of them. Slipping off your boots, you left them by the door, placing them neatly together.

Your feet padded softly down the hall as you searched for the source of the voice. Eventually, entering the main room, you spotted a leg poking out of a mountain of pillows and blankets. Smiling, you paused, staring at the sight in front of you. Chance poked his head out of the mountain, his tie slightly askew and shades discarded to the floor next to him.

"Hi Y/n! Welcome to my pillow fort! Care to join me?" They offered, extending their hand out to you.

You giggled as Chance smiled, appearing to be quite proud of his pillow fort.

"Wow! I see someone's been busy." You pointed out. Taking a few steps forward, you crouched down and took Chance's hand, following them into the pile of pillows and blankets. Surprisingly, it was quite cozy, with a few chairs holding up a blanket to make the roof. There also seemed to be pillows all around, some of the larger ones that appeared to be off of a couch placed on the floor, almost acting like a chair.

Chance plopped himself down onto one of the larger pillows, patting the one next to him for you to join. Unable to hide your amusement, you took a seat next to him, sitting cross legged.

"What do you think? Do you like my wonderful pillow fort?" Chance inquired, fiddling with his tie. Smoothing out your pants, you let out a small laugh, nodding along.

"Indeed I do. It's quite cozy," Chance seemed glad about your approval of his building skills, as they pulled a deck of cards out of a small box that you hadn't noticed before.

"Would you like to see a magic trick?" Chance offered, carefully shuffling the deck in his hands. Shrugging, you agreed, watching the deck closely as he shuffled it like second nature. The gambler fanned the cards, holding them out towards you. Picking out a card, you scanned it, making sure to remember what one it was. The king of spades. Nodding, you placed it back into the deck as Chance instructed.

After a moment of shuffling, Chance fanned the cards out in front of him once again, their eyes scanning over the cards. With a smirk, he pulled out a card holding it out to you like he had solved world hunger.

"Is this your card?" He asked proudly. Staring at the card he held so proudly, you giggled. The queen of hearts.

"Nope!" Chance looked at you in shock, smirk wavering.

He shuffled the card back in, before pulling out another one, holding it out to show you.

"Well then it must be this one!" The confidence in their voice wavered as they showed you the second card. The nine of clubs. Again you snorted quietly, shaking your head much to the gamblers dismay. Now, with his smirk completely gone, Chance put the nine of clubs back into the deck, pulling one last card out.

"Third time's a charm, right?"

This time you clapped slowly, looking at the king of spades in front of you.

"Yeah, that's my card," Chance's face went slightly red from embarrassment as he placed the deck down next to him.

"How about I make us some drinks? Would you fancy a hot chocolate?" Chance offered, putting on his best formal attitude. That made you chuckle as you nodded causing Chance to shuffle out of the pillow fort to go and make the drinks.

A few minutes passed until Chance returned, slowly crawling in to sit next to you while holding the two mugs of hot chocolate. As they handed one to you, you took a small sip, enjoying the sweet but not overpowering taste.

"Thank you Chance. This is great!" You exclaimed as he took a sip of his own. A smile lit up his face as he nodded happily.

"Glad you like it!" As the Two of you drank in silence, you relaxed, enjoying the rare moment of peace you had gotten. It wasn't everyday that you were able to just sit down and enjoy a warm drink, let alone in a pillow fort. Over the next hour, once you were finished with your drinks, Chance pulled the cards back out, setting up for a game. To be completely honest, you didn't really know how to play, but it was still fun to play with Chance.

As expected, he absolutely smashed you in poker. Luckily there were no bets of money this time, only small displays of affection like kisses and soft hugs, something that Chance had no problem giving to you. As time pressed on, the two of you grew tired, eyes drooping. You soon found yourself leaning your head against Chance's shoulder leaning into their warmth.

It didn't take long for Chance to lean against you as well, pulling one of the blankets up over the two of your shoulders as he rested his head on top of yours. Wrapping an arm around you, he pulled you closer to him, holding you tightly against his side. The cabin creaked slowly in the night air, but the fun of the evening put a smile on your face even in this god forsaken place. Soon sleep took over, pulling both Chance and you under.
