A few decades or so ago gates and dungeons appeared and monsters and beasts stormed out of them leaving the world in chaos.

Among the chaos the awakened ones came forward to save the day.

They are called hunters.

The essence of strength for hunters is mana, every being has mana in them, but the more mana one has the more strong they are.

Tere are ranks among the awakaners E, D, C, B, A and lastly S.

An hunter has limited strength they cannot surpess.

An E rank hunter has a slightly a better build than a normal human adult on the other hand S rank hunters are powerhouses with incredible strength.

America

It was a calm summer morning.

Alora sat on the black leather chair by the window, her small skinny frame swallowed by the large chair.

She leaned against the window with her cheek, her head resting against the cool glass, feeling the warm sunlight gently graze her skin.

Her hands were like two branches, extremely skinny. her face pale and sickly, her blonde hair rough. Her facial features were sunken, if not for lack of meat on both of her cheeks she would be the considered extremely adorable.

Her body was covered with a thin white hospital gown looking mightily ghastly.

She gazed at the yard outside with lifeless eyes, it had a huge tree, blocking most of the sunlight.

"Mama..."

She slowly murmured,  her eyes becoming moist, her body was a child's so she always felt like crying.

She vaguely remembered, but there was a thick mist in front of that figure in her mind.

She doesn't remember but she holds immense love for this unfamiliar person.

She wished she chould Reunite with her again, but fate would not allow it or rather, they, would not allow it, even it death.

Her brows furrowed and she pressed her lips together. She has about to start her daily routine of complaints.

But a loud knock was heard from outside the large apartment like room, it brought Alora out of her thoughts, she turned to the door.

The door opened and a tall bulky man with blond hair came in, he was wearing shorts, sunglasses and a colourful shirt.

He had a strong presence, as expected of a national level hunter.

A national level hunter is a hunter on a higher a level than that of an S rank. Their numbers chould be counted in fingers. But this one was the most enthusiastic about bickering with a child.

"You learned to knock"

Alora scoffed, sarcasm clear in her face.

Her mockery birthed from the fact that, in her stay here for a year, he never once knocked while visiting.

Thomas Andrew just chuckled at the rude remark, he is used to it, as he has been treated like that for years, from his perspective at least.

He sat down at the couch right opposite of her and crossed his legs, if someone did not know any better they would think he was a delinquent.

"I got what you wanted."

He got right to point not wasting time, and took out a small bottle from his pocket.

The glass bottle was half-filled with a dark green liquid. it was a extremely rare recovery potion, it might be of help with her situation.

Seeing that nothing was working, Alora had no choice but to seek his help, and he gladly lend her a hand.

The condition was both a blessing and a curse, no it is a curse.

She was the youngest person to awaken their hunter abilities, a rare gem in the hunter world.

The youngest S ranker in the world.

She had a enormous amount of mana that was difficult to control.

Adult hunters did not have to go through this problem because they had a strong body.

Although her body has strengthened much more than an average child, it was not enough to withstand the constantly unstable mana inside her.

Her own mana is eating her away, internal organs are mostly damaged, how she is still living is a miracle.

He nonchalantly threw the bottle towards her, as it reached near, the small bottle hung in mid air, defying gravity.

Alora was using her ability, the bottle was coated with a layer of mana as it hung.

She was a control type hunter, able to control objects and living beings with less mana than her, but the control was only pshycial.

She looked at the bottle with a dissatisfied expression and muttered.

"Looks disgusting."

She turned to look at Thomas.

"How many did you find?"

He was looking down on his phone and did not look up but answered.

"One."

Alora jolted up, just one? How is just one going to be enough?

Thomas put down his phone and with a sigh said

"It was the only one I found after racking the international hunter market, these things are rare."

His face showed clear disappointment.

Seeing his expression Alora became less enthusiastic and looked down at her legs, which cannot be deemed nothing less than useless.

She sighed and said with a shrug.

"It's okay. it's not like there's a guarantee its gonna work."

Although she said that, she was really looking forward to this potion, after all it was her only life saving means.

She looked at the bottle hanging in air and contemplated whetver to drink it or not,

'Even if it does work it won't be able to cure me completely, i need at least three bottles of these....
Let's t's give it a try.'

She used her ability again.

The bottle opened itself and came towards her mouth, she gulped down the potion in one go.

Her face was slowly devoured by a disgusted expression.

It tasted horrible, so bad that she wished she could wash her tounge with bleach.

'If this was medicine than what's poison?'

She could feel a little betterment in her health, but that's only a little, it only helped her move her arms, nothing else.

'Looks like I would need a dozen of these to recover.'

(Author: This is my second fanfiction, I hope you like it. And yeah, it's slow paced, but don't worry we'll get to the good part soon enough.)
